Contagion (2010)

Hadn’t seen the ’rents in coming up on four months given all this. Finally made the trip down last night as I understand a I’m good to go on that front. Made them watch “Contagion”.

8.5/10

Paltrow’s two seizure-faces almost get it to a 9. Jude Law’s naff Alex Jones impression knock it down to an 8. The last scene bumps it to a solid 8.5.

Marion Cotillard does look great in it, ’though. Amended to a firm 8.75.

Shudder. Jude Law films.

The Drop - Being a dog lover, this was obviously great. Just felt Gandolfini’s character was a bit random and unnecessary, felt like a waste. Liked how they built up Hardy to that WTF moment. 7.7/10

I was trying to be funny…. 😢

The Holiday was the worst movie my ex made me watch with her, and that’s saying something.

I did like his cameo in Anchor Man where he boots Baxter off the bridge and turns to Burgundy and states ’that’s how I roll’….and thats about it.

I’ll give him a pass in High Fidelity too. He was supposed to be annoying.

I liked it when Jack Black got his arm blown off in “The Jackal”.

Decent flick that. If for nothing more than Richard Gere’s abortive Irish accent. “Ahhhhh shite!” Why did they even have him do that? Didn’t seem like it was a necessary script point. Not quite Keanu in Dracula bad, but not too far off. Closer to Cruise in “Far And Away”….“shag off the pair of ya!”

Dark Waters - decent legal drama with Mark Ruffalo and Tim Robins. The US is a fucking mess, with the rest of the world not far behind. 7/10

Speaking of Ruffalo, Spotlight comes to HBO Nordic tomorrow. Haven’t looked forward to watching a movie again this much in a long time.

Dark waters is a good film but the documentary about it is even more harrowing. Especially Teflon and how it’s been used. They reckon it’s in most of our bodies.

Watched Human Traffic last night which I haven’t seen in years. It looked really dated but was ok. 6.9

The Girl With The Bracelet. Often very uncomfortable French courtroom drama with some irritating elements, but definitely worth a watch. Tense. 7.5/10

Coincidentally enough, had this on the tele while working today from home. With our man Ruffalo.

Didn’t like it when it came out (Scorsese expectations, maybe) but warmed up to it recently. The ending is a bit silly but the island is beautiful and I like the creepy vibe. The brooding soundtrack is good, too.

        7/10

        EDIT: That’s too high. 6/10.

Worst scorcese movie I’ve ever seen. But I’m far from seeing them all.

That said, every actor was great in it.

Homegrove Ruffalo is absolutely brilliant in that new TV show - I Know This Much Is True. It’s a really bleak and extremely depressing series and I’m not sure the subject matter will interest everyone for entertainment, but the acting in it is just first class. Was a bit close to home for me and this missus was finding herself tear up in regular intervals. I can’t imagine how tough it must have been to be dealing with mental health issues from the 60s-80s.
