Ressurection (2022)

Rebecca Hall and Tim Roth. Now there’s a couple of talented British people who don’t get nearly enough acclaim. Well, they’re brilliant in this.

Is it a good film? Meh.

Did I enjoy it? Yes.

Did I enjoy it largely because I am a sucker for this type of film, i.e a lowish-budget creepy psychological mystery thriller thing that looks like it was dreamt up and filmed over the course of a couple of weeks and yet still manages to land a few fairly significant blows to the psyche and actually makes you reassess your understanding of how relationships work and how one person can exert control over another despite everything?

Probably, yes. But I’d still recommend it, for Roth’s terrible toothy grin if nothing else.

8/10

The Wolf of Wall Street. Tonight’s choice was also the wife’s. She got the idea from Titanic bless her. Much better than that one. We saw it together when it was in the the theatres, and this was the first rewatch. And I got to tell you it won’t be another ten years before I watch it again, it’s a great fucking movie.

The Devil’s Advocate. That was actually a lot of fun to watch again. Makes Pacino’s performance in Heat seem subtle.

Charlize Theron also learned to act after 1997. She’s terrible in this.

      Never Say Never Again

Sean Connery creaks his way across the screen for a wonky non cannon Bond caper whilst wearing too much eye make up. The amount of side tit in this film is off the chart even for a Bond film.

        The good old days.

Millennial cunts like Zacko with their ‘feelings’ ruined bond

Barbie: Entertaining watch, and you must admire how bold it is. Getting all meta and the questions of barbie’s relevance in today’s times. But it’s trying to squeeze in too many ideas and while the script has some brilliant splashes of writing, it felt a bit wish washy. Like that it’s primarily geared towards moms and not kids. Missus cried and absolutely loved it, said it was perfect and clever, so that was a win I guess. 7.6 / 10

C_J put on rocky 1, which was quite enjoyable.

            Blood Work (2002)

This is an adaptation of a decent Michael Connelly book starring Clint Eastwood. The first two thirds of the film is pretty decent but it goes a bit awry in the last half hour, when the film deviates from the original plot somewhat….to its detriment IMO.

Mad_Cyril Sounds like a GB News headline, ‘Wokeness ruining Sunday afternoon blimp’.

strummer Can`t believe men are watching Barbie ffs.

Keep forgetting Strumsy’s a neanderthal from the 1960s

Sorcerer (1977). First time watching and loved it. The 40th anniversary Blu Ray looked great, and was well worth the 24 €.

C_J It sounded like my cup of tea, but just didn’t buy into it enough, the plot was very unconvincing to me. It’s certainly given me a thing for Rebecca Hall, so every cloud and all that. 5/10

Also watched Following after it was mentioned on here. Really liked it - good to see Nolan experimenting with the past and present early doors. Thought the acting was excellent and had a real rawness, like Man Bites Dog (and not just because they’re both black and white). 7.5/10
