To those that don’t like what they have heard so far, give the last hour and a half a listen. There is some cracking techno and euphoric moments in there. He’s trying to achieve something different and it often succeeds, particularly in the transitions.
Baumel’s GU imentioned earlier is a more orthodox mix but the second half is much better than the pedestrian first (it often is), although unlike Voorn’s, I already knew half of the tracks on it.

I’ve collected the GUs since the start. At £55 the collectors editions are silly prices but it’s a little luxury and I spend only a fraction of music that I used to. I’ve always appreciated the photos and sleeve notes - makes it a bit more than just a listening experience.

Voorn’s mix is a bit bland until the last 20 mins and although CD2 takes it up a notch unless you’re into the techno sound it’s a lot of cash for a cd that will get a couple of plays.

After Baumel it would have been good to take a different sound on other than Techno.

Voorns mix is technically superb with all the tracks is doesn’t sound messy or disjointed, rather a bit bland for non techno lovers.

Are the two fat lads back in control of GU? Didn’t they sell the label to MOS ages ago?

Itunes version is fucked with it being the single tracks only? Anyone confirm? Ta

Matty Fair summary that. I think it will age well given how its been blended together. The individual tracks which typically have a short shelf-life are secondary to the mix itself.

Enjoying this so far - wouldn’t say I’m a techno lover tbh - appreciate he’s tried something a bit different and I think it works.

Wally I agree. He’s blended the right records together and it works as a seamless, engaging listen. You don’t notice the many of tracks are only 90 seconds each and it has made me seek out the individual tracks that really stand out. Think it will age well.

Saw the deluxe / collectors edition, serious bit of kit. I’m assuming this is in the same vein to his Balance mix? Lots of minimal tracks that work together?

Lightfoot this is all club from (nearly) the start. His Balance had lots of interludes.

          Lightfoot

GU is loads more techno than the balance set. Balance was a lot more progressive and varied.

similar number of tracks though , Balance just over 100 and GU 118

CD2 of GU has a genuine European techno vibe
