Going out on a limb here to talk about a comp CD

Thoughts on Joris Voorn??

As I’m sure it’s technically proficient , 118 tracks; unless you know the music you wouldn’t really know or notice. I’m sure that the point but it’s not as if it’s got amazing depth

Baumel although in the techno mold was very accessible.

This one with lashing of European techno vibe just doesn’t scratch the itch. Will not be remembered along with the later releases of the series. Labelle and Baumel were just far superior.

I’m sure if you like that sound then you’ll think it’s fine but for me it’s just too cold.

Haven’t heard this yet, but personally I find him hot and cold. I liked his essential mixes, but not much else he’s done. Haven’t got high hopes I’ll like this.

lol worthy of it’s own debate thread then. i may give it another shot later this evening just to see if i’m wrong about it.

To those that don’t like what they have heard so far, give the last hour and a half a listen. There is some cracking techno and euphoric moments in there. He’s trying to achieve something different and it often succeeds, particularly in the transitions.
Baumel’s GU imentioned earlier is a more orthodox mix but the second half is much better than the pedestrian first (it often is), although unlike Voorn’s, I already knew half of the tracks on it.

I’ve collected the GUs since the start. At £55 the collectors editions are silly prices but it’s a little luxury and I spend only a fraction of music that I used to. I’ve always appreciated the photos and sleeve notes - makes it a bit more than just a listening experience.

Voorn’s mix is a bit bland until the last 20 mins and although CD2 takes it up a notch unless you’re into the techno sound it’s a lot of cash for a cd that will get a couple of plays.

After Baumel it would have been good to take a different sound on other than Techno.

Voorns mix is technically superb with all the tracks is doesn’t sound messy or disjointed, rather a bit bland for non techno lovers.

Are the two fat lads back in control of GU? Didn’t they sell the label to MOS ages ago?

Itunes version is fucked with it being the single tracks only? Anyone confirm? Ta

Matty Fair summary that. I think it will age well given how its been blended together. The individual tracks which typically have a short shelf-life are secondary to the mix itself.

Voorns multi track wankathons have always been budget. S to the werve

Enjoying this so far - wouldn’t say I’m a techno lover tbh - appreciate he’s tried something a bit different and I think it works.
