Mad_Cyril Can I post some Donk?

I could hardly believe my ears when I heard a contemporary US donk track in a recent techno set:

Knowing DT he is probably canning that these days

hugopal I heard it in a Bjarki set.

Oh then danny is 1000% on it, but he’ll be trundling it out at a predictable 128

Danny pathetically chases hip techno these days. Has been for several unfortunate years now. Bjarki is big enough that I expect he is now on DT’s radar.

Very nearly gave birth to triplets during the breakdown of this track in The Redbox. Digweed taking absolutely zero prisoners in the final hour.

          Butties before the club again?

Sounds like a low T version of this classic

Really? Do you have any examples of any sets of him playing such things? Not that I’m entirely doubting you, just curious.

I’ve only seen one, personally. He did an insane show in like 2019 where he was playing like 2009 ostgut style stuff. I distinctly remember hearing multiple Function and Surgeon tunes, which cracked me up. Have heard anecdotally from several people that he is still going around hammering techno at house gigs. He also did a funny interview where he talked about his history in the NYC techno scene, which cracked me up. I don’t claim to be massive ny techno head, but I certainly don’t recall Danny rolling with Frankie Bones, Adam X, or anything of the Sonic Groove guys/gals, nor do I remember him ever playing the Thursday parties at The Limelight.

            zackster Frankie Bones

One of my earlier rave memories was Bones hammering this and bringing the absolute house down. I must’ve been like 14 years old. Good times.

jonattonyeah oddly enough, the first party I ever attended was Frankie Bones and Dj Venom. They played a rave in an old laser tag venue not far from my house. Completely blew my mind.

One of the biggest reasons why I will always respect Frankie Bones. Dude would play anywhere. So many DJs thought they were too good for the rave scene, dingy warehouses, or playing to us kids. Bones was never like that. Him, DJ Dan, your man Josh Wink….without them I wouldn’t be into this music.

I also remember one UK jock who would always play the raves in SF - Andrew Weatherall.

Agreed. Big part of why Wink is an all time fav for me. He would throw all ages parties in Philly, which was the only way I was ever going to see Djs play. None of the proggers would have touched those types of things with a 10 foot poll at the time. Bones, Adam X, Dan, Dave the Drummer, Chris Liberator, Chris Liebing, Diesel Boy were the types of names you’d get.

Smallman1 and the parties were better for it mate. Sasha frowning though all 12 minutes of Love In Traffic is not what was needed.

Yup. We booked Jerry Bonham once time (because a headliner, who I cannot remember, had to back out last minute). Dude acted like he was doing us a favor while getting like two racks to play records. We had an excellent soundsystem and a good crowd so he was super friendly once he realized we weren’t a joke, but still.

The Detroit guys were just as bad. Charging bonkers fees and in an era before sync where Atkins, Saunderson, Larkin, Carl Craig couldn’t mix a fucking gin and tonic. Give me Charles Feelgood and Doc Martin any day of the week over those pompous clowns.

jonattonyeah this is the one that comes to mind for me. Could you imagine if Smallman1 encountered such music? He’d have been home like a shot and under the duvet cover faster than you can say pizza sans cheese!
