I’m surprised at how many people didn’t think what I posted above in the other thread was techno. To me it certainly isn’t prog or deep house. Maybe a shade of ‘deep tech house’ if people want to call it that.
We noticed since around 2009/10 maybe later, the lines of many genres became really blurred and there are so many strands of the genres when DJs get into it all. Progressive House isn’t just Progressive House and Prog DJs are happy to move between genres sometimes.
To me, the only techno I used to like wasn’t much - I loved Umek/Valentino Kanzyani around 2001-2004 style (not when they switched to Minimal) and I really loved the whole I Love Techno sound around 2003. And Chris Leibing. But my exposure to proper techno was small, most friends weren’t into it yet.
I agree I wouldn’t play what I pasted anywhere near other examples given - the type of Techno I was sharing was something I would drop in the build up / plateau of a driving prog set, and have done.
Also, to me, power prog doesn’t have to be fast and hard although it often is. There are more dynamics where I can find a peak time prog track make a room go crazy, than just relying on that speed or toughness.
It’s interesting seeing everyone’s perspectives though because we all come at it from only our own personal experiences and never see everything through anyone else’s eyes/ears/brain make up.
