Along_the_Wire thanks mate. Will take a look. Any particular make or model?
Millsy I’ve seen loads gravel bikes up where I ride. They do have their limitations though. If where you live is very bumpy with lots of up & downs maybe a hardtail MTB would be a better option with 29″ wheels.
Smallman1 All about the aero Ed.
Dubman That would be shit on the road through, Dubbers. Millsy has clearly stated he wants a bike capable of both.
There’s a Mondraker Dune on FB Marketplace for £650 that looks alright. Think the RRP is £2k so it’s probably stolen. But I didn’t steal it so I think I’m in the clear. Thoughts? Feelings?
Millsy I’m getting some advice, hold tight.
Millsy it’s a MTB pal
Millsy That’s a full suspension bike. I wouldn’t ride that on the road for a long period.
Along_the_Wire That’s why I said 29″ wheels as they do roll faster.
Gravel bike is great on the road and on trails. Way better than a MTB does the same
Ah right. My sons bike has rock shox or whatever its called on the front fork and you can switch that on and off. If you fix it does it ride better on the road?
There’s far too much choice nowadays and it all costs an arm and a leg. Give me the white dog poo halcyon days of either a chopper, a Burner/Boxer or racer.

Yes it would ride better on the road but not as good as a grave bike. Whereas it would be more comfortable off road.
Might just get a local scally to half inch a decent road bike from someone’s garage.
Specialized Diverge or Canyon Grail is what I’m being told. Big price range on the Diverge.
Will take a look bud. Ta
The ole Bike Bants could do with an upgrade.
Sonder Camino or Calibri.
Wife has just got the calibri and it’s great, versatile for road and gravel and won’t break the bank.
sub company of the fantastic Alpkit brand.
Pick from here, Millsy. There’s a wide range, the one for £800 in there new. If you’re looking at a decent second-hand one, the expensive ones here will be a good kind in terms of brand and type.

I’ve refused to get one, but so many of my mates have now got one, I’m gonna be an outlier at some point over the summer.
Along_the_Wire is a gravel bike a better version of a hybrid? I’m after a bike to just cycle around the countryside a bit at weekends and the odd journey to the station when heading into London. Therefore don’t need anything expensive
Cheers dude. Slim pickings on the usual second hand places (Gum tree etc). Is there a Mamil gathering place online I can tap up for a decent second hand one under a grand? Just dipping my toe.

Flat bar version is under £900 if you don’t fancy drops
Millsy Getting a new bike is tricky - lock down has cleaned a lot of places out. There’s a good new bike in there for under £900. Ribble do great bikes - they’ve got some excellent gravel bikes at £1,100. Decathalon’s new brand Triban is decent too.
