Along_the_Wire Well according to health secretary in SA, there isn’t many going into hospital and they only have a 25% vaccine rate. Looking also at what Jules has shared its looking positive hopefully but highly transmitable.

Funky nothing changed in the announcements, so maybe they are paying attention to what’s going on in SA?

Along_the_Wire we literally stripped your team of its disgusting racist name. So yes, they are all sorted.

I’ve never been to South Africa.

AND I CERTAINLY WON’T BE GOING ANY TIME SOON.

I’m in the Costa Del Tooting chief.

    Jules72 78k cases in the U.K. today… looking rather perky…

So you’ll soon find out if indeed Omicron is much milder, which the early indications still point towards.

hugopal I saw an early study out of South Africa yesterday suggesting illness severity might be reduced by ~ 30%, which is good. The seemingly much faster transmission will swallow that advantage pretty quickly though.

Purely anecdotal but the people I know at work that have tested positive in the last week to ten days have barely broken stride. Certainly wasn’t the case with Delta.

Smallman1 “People who have cold-like symptoms in London are more likely to have Covid than a cold, according to the scientist behind the Zoe coronavirus symptom tracker app.”

So now if I said that Covid is basically just the flu I could well be over-exaggerating.

"On Wednesday, Dr Meaghan Kall, an epidemiologist at the UK Health Security Agency, said that care homes and hospital wards were seeing 50 to 80 per cent of people infected - levels not seen since before the vaccination programme began.

But she added: “They are mostly asymptomatic and mild infections. I remain optimistic about omicron being milder."

I swear you can find any number of articles saying it’s nothing more than a cold all the way to it being radioactive AIDS. Fact is, there’s likely to be substantial regional variation depending on any number of factors so I would take most of said articles with a grain of salt.
