New study from Hong Kong finds Omicron grows 70x quicker in bronchial tissue than original and Delta variants “that could help explain its rapid transmission”, while on the flip-side it “grew 10 times slower in lung tissue, which the authors said could be an indicator of lower disease severity”.
Purely anecdotal but the people I know at work that have tested positive in the last week to ten days have barely broken stride. Certainly wasn’t the case with Delta.
"On Wednesday, Dr Meaghan Kall, an epidemiologist at the UK Health Security Agency, said that care homes and hospital wards were seeing 50 to 80 per cent of people infected - levels not seen since before the vaccination programme began.
But she added: “They are mostly asymptomatic and mild infections. I remain optimistic about omicron being milder."
I swear you can find any number of articles saying it’s nothing more than a cold all the way to it being radioactive AIDS. Fact is, there’s likely to be substantial regional variation depending on any number of factors so I would take most of said articles with a grain of salt.
