My friend in London was saying that the cases are through the roof because the rapid testing wasn’t catching the Omicron virus, but when they did the more robust testing mostly for folks seeing their parents for Christmas, it was catching it. Was also saying no deaths and mostly mild symptoms, hospitals clogged with paranoid folk.

                    There was a reasonable pickup in hospitalisations in Gauteng but a peak well off the delta wave, and only a small pick up in ICU cases - so the more severe you move along the spectrum, the less the numbers pick up… as far as I can see there is nothing in the data yet that tells us SA is different from the U.K.
