If it’s not uncomfortable, it’s not entirely reliable. The nasopharyngeal test is 100% accurate but 100% 15 second of awful. The rapid tests, the less invasive ones, have been all over the map. When we have a positive, we re-test. And we have had a fair amount of false positives. The bigger problem is that we don’t retest for negatives. We don’t know about false negatives.
That said, what they’ve been using in the NBA campus thing in Orlando has been very consistent and the turnaround has been very fast. That could be a real step forward.
There’s also a possible antigen test in the future. Like a pregnancy test that scans for proteins. That could be a game changer as the results would be very quick - could be done before someone boards a plane. The Lost Tribe “Game Master” of Covid. That song’s lyrics are the fucking worst.
