Along_the_Wire yeah Spain’s major outbreaks seemed to be in clubs and bars…. nuts. I think to a large extent many EU countries were just hoping to get through August (the holiday season) before imposing restrictions

There’s been an outbreak in Howth in Dublin because of a wedding, a large amount of guests came over from the UK. The lax measures are going to backfire massively it seems. The feeling I get is that the Govts are willing to deal with these relatively small “outbreaks” and plough on regardless, despite the possibility of them growing into larger clusters.

LT42 I dunno, as things stand things are under control - clubs, sporting events and busy pubs are what’ll send it stratospheric. I guess you can file weddings under that.

Of course, schools opening will cause a major second wave unless it’s mutated already (which is possible with the death rates falling dramatically)

Last month some woman tested positive, her daughter was getting married a week later so she decided to keep it a secret in order to preserve the wedding?!?! She attended without a mask and infected 47 people. The mother of the bride would traditionally stand and receive the guests, getting kissed on the cheek. Unbelievable. A wealthy family too, not uneducated. Just thick as pig shit and selfish beyond belief.

Now that’s led to new protocol whereby any weddings registered with the Belediye (Council) will have a special police team attend the wedding. If they spot anyone not adhering to proper social distancing or wearing masks the wedding party is liable for on the spot fines of up to 20k Lira. Bear in mind there could be anything up to 1000 weddings a day in Istanbul.

All because of one total cunt.

Shame that so many bars/pubs behave so irresponsibly… I’ve been to a good handful where distancing works well and you would think the risks are pretty low in those. But all of that will go to waste because of outbreaks due to those that don’t implement it.
