LT42 we will see - I don’t buy all the caveats like demographics when we also have a heavily boosted population vs their very low vaccination rate… in any case there is South African data that shows a big drop is hospitalisations across ALL age groups not just the young (vs the delta wave)… what might well happen here in the U.K. is we lockdown because of fear and because of NHS staff shortages… believe what you want though - imo the demographic caveat is pessimistic speculation …I think it won’t be long before we are on the other side of this

It would barely even matter anyway if we’d done as Australia did since the start and basically just shut the fucking borders, knowing it was dangerous.

alistair I’ve said multiple times that it will take time for everywhere in northern europe to see how it goes, which is common sense, rather than just saying “its mild in SA so keep everywhere open, we’re fine.” or the dumb request of “show me the death certificates.”
The evidence doesn’t conclusively exist right now, that’s the point. It’s not even up for debate that the variant is nearly 10 times more transmissable which will put hospitals under pressure because healthcare workers aren’t invincible and can contract the virus leaving systems understaffed which in turn leads to problems that don’t need mentioning. You’re oversimplifying it. Benson is a healthcare worker, it doesn’t make him fucking Nostradamus.

COVID is dangerous. The vaccines have side effects (significant) for many of the population. Don’t make people take them if they don’t want to. Just stop people moving around. Make people do proper quarantine (21 days, paid for by themselves). Isolate outbreak areas.

That’s my position. China can do it, very successfully, as it happens. You should all be asking yourself, and your shitty Government (whether UK or US), “Why can’t we?”
