hugopal I think part of CPR’s point is why would anyone with any sense choose to live in China?!
Which seems fair enough tbh.
Quite honestly, there are many many good things (to go with the bad that everyone knows about).
Such as you’ll be safe and unbothered wandering around hammered at 3am. And there will be places open at that time somewhere in a city like Beijing or Shanghai (in normal circumstances), and they will even be busy. It’s just generally a very safe place to live, unlike UK or American cities. The Zero COVID policy has been a great thing. It’s starting to go pear-shaped now. But for a while, you could genuinely go out without worrying about getting it.
The people are people of a developing country - they can be uncouth and are sometimes quite racist but in an ignorant rather than malicious way (unless you’re dark-skinned - then it’s a different matter entirely).
There is lots of freedom and fun to be had generally in this country. The food is superb. Yes, you may eat stuff that makes you sick but why would you go to a shit restaurant when you can eat Michelin-class cuisine for as little as £20 a head (before booze)?
The place is exciting and booming in a way that the US probably was decades ago.
