An Italian athlete has been fined €400 (£360) for breaking Covid rules after his friend fell into a ravine and died as they ran in mountains near the Swiss border. Simone Massetti, 34, fell 200m (650ft), Corriere della Sera reports. Under current regulations in force in the region, you aren’t allowed to travel outside your local area.

Bit harsh this, granted the rules were broken but to fine the survivor 400 euros after watching his mate fall to a grisly death shows no compassion at all.

What a way to go, poor bastard.

Hope this doesn’t happen to me in Tooting.

What’s everyone’s opinion on this ‘saving Christmas’ bollocks?

Feels like a dangerous pandering to media induced sentiment. Personally I’d rather have Christmas with my household only than ‘save christmas’ and go into extra lockdowns and have a greater chance of catching the virus.

    Seems fucking stupid to me.

Yeah I think of it from my friends point of view who’s businesses are closed during lockdowns. It’s not fair on them to essentially have a party followed by another lockdown.

For me it should be consistent regional controls and targeted ‘at risk’ age groups should be isolating thus allowing something relating to a functioning economy.

It’ll be ‘BAU’ on the Christmas front at Casa Smalls.

Only on Christmas Day though, have to be respectful in some regards.

Mad_Cyril I sort of agree but let me present this scenario:
I live on my own in Leeds, my dad died a month ago so my mum is now on her own in Oldham and my brother lives in Wirral (with his family). Normally I would drive over to pick up my parents and take them to my brother’s and then drive them home again. I’m not so bothered about me but should my mum be made to spend Christmas alone?
I don’t have any answers nor am I trying to be a twat, I’m just pointing out that it’s not always straightforward.

TitianWarrior I don’t think the police have the manpower or care about such a scenario.

I think it’s fairly clear that the new powers exist to break up house parties, raves, mass gatherings

bosstrabs This and to drop three families meeting for Christmas dinner

I’m with MC - it’s fucking mental that we would ease measures to have a normal Christmas and have more severe lockdowns after (or even before). Fucking stupid - it’s one fucking day. It’s for thickets

Smallman1 I’m sure your quite safe in your ground floor flat.

Spend Christmas in Hampton Court SD.

          Hampton Court and Chiswick.

Give it 5 and Dutchy will be along with his Hampton Court joke.

              Yeah it really is.

Am here now as it happens.

              Scones.

Dan Nice part of the world tbf.

It’s a boring part of England, for imbeciles to live in tranquilised self-assurance.

Not a patch on Runcorn tbf.

I’ve never lived in Runcorn, pal.

I’m off for a run down the glorious River Thames.

                Cheers!
