Hursty Spoke to the father in law the other day, he has all day to read about these types of things. Basically he said he would be over the moon with the Pfizer vaccine, but apprehensive if he got the Oxford which most people will get. Apparently they Pfizer and Moderna are based on a completely different method for immunisation, relying on the latest biomedical science rather than the traditional way of giving you a small dose of the virus and letting you build up a resistance.
On the flip-side, a potential benefit of the AZ vaccine which I’ve seen speculated upon is that actually because it is based on the old technology then it could be less likely there’ll be unforeseen long-term side effects appearing from it in the future.
While the Pfizer vaccine based on the new MRNA tech has been shown pretty safe from short-term side effects, due to the timescales there’s still a slim chance of something appearing a bit further down the line. Supposedly it’s not unheard of for some side effects from vaccines to not become apparent until 1-2 years after the event.
