Why is it unfair, unethical etc? I’ve yet to hear a convincing argument.

Why would less well of people suffer directly because of vaccine passports?

It’s in everyone’s interest to shut down the virus. I think that’s a priority over sustaining private companies. Travel agents are businesses subject to market forces, the world has changed and they’ve been impacted - unfortunately that’s life.

The vaccination battle over this way has had its issues. And I get it, personally. Look, if you’re some anti-vax mom ’cause you get your information from Dr. Facebook, well you’re just an idiot. But if you’re from a community that has historically been on the receiving end of public health malfeasance and the trust just isn’t there, well I understand that. Here’s hoping as more people get the jabs, those with misgivings might warm up a bit.

As I said earlier, 100% effective at preventing hospitalizations and deaths so far in SF. We did just have a guy, yesterday, test positive after being vaccinated. But asymptomatic so whatever.

This is a real problem. I am on the board of commissioners for our city’s housing authority. They are currently conducting on site clinics for all residents regardless of age. All you need is a note from ur Dr saying you are ok to be vaccinated. We’ve had about 50% of residents say they refuse to take the jab. Young people say it ““isn’t safe” and elderly say it will kill them. And people aren’t bringing their children because they say “oh he is little, he doesn’t need it”. We just spent an entire meeting discussing messaging to handle this issue. Our end conclusion was it is pointless but we are going to try anyway.

benson this is a legitimate question because i assume you understand this far better than i do … what’s the difference in terms of public health consequences between someone who has been vaccinated, contracts covid, and has mild or no symptoms as a result vs. someone with a healthy immune system who hasn’t been vaccinated, but also has mild or is asymptomatic after contracting covid?

303abuser I think if you haven’t been vaccinated you can still get the bad symptoms, but the vaccine protects you against the worst of it if you catch it.

Can’t speak to the UK, or the medical side of it, but we’re treating them the same in regard to quarantine expectations. Keep in mind we’ve only had two people test positive post-vaccine and their situations were a bit “unique” so…yeah….I guess we don’t have a firm policy as of yet.

Along_the_Wire yes you “can still get bad symptoms”, but what if you don’t? i understand this is a really specific scenario, but i would assume the answer to my question is that there isn’t a difference. i’m not a medical expert so, that’s where i’d like benson or someone with similar knowledge to weigh in.

i’m not one to jump to hugo’s defense, but i think he makes some valid points. there needs to be a balance between what’s good for public health and individual freedoms. i’m not anti-vaccine by any stretch, but pretending we know what the potential long term consequences of a vaccine that hasn’t been through long term safety trials and is using novel technology is just ridiculous. giving up freedoms for the public good is often a slippery slope and the power structure doesn’t give these measures up once they’re in place, that’s been clearly demonstrated.
