No shit! My ex went to Lehigh and paid an arm and a leg for it so it just happened to come to mind. She’s done very well for herself so there’s that.
As for loans, those who issued the private loans are off the hook, to my understanding. We’d just be relieving publicly owned debt. I just don’t see anyway to make it feasible or fair. And, yes, that matters. To my mind, anyway. We don’t have much money.
Sadly, as someone who manages a large public budget, money we get (which I often don’t even fucking need) could be used to go elsewhere (like fixing embarrassing public housing conditions). But those who scream the loudest, or who has the political connections, gets the allocations. Can we do both? I’d hope so. But we are at an either/or thing these days.
Personally, I’d rather take care of those who need it rather than my aforementioned Caleb and his complacency in his own circumstance.
Want to hand out money? Cool. But tying it to a specific form or debt - one agreed to and was supposed to help the person getting the loan actually make money - is asinine. The idiot Caleb get’s a free $50K gift whereas Dave becomes a plumber and gets fuck all. Beyond fuck all, he’s now at a further disadvantage when it comes to home purchase or other investments or retirement because of choices Caleb made? Nope. All out on that. It’s a stupid, shortsighted idea.
