Henry I bought one of the early versions of arturia’s fx collections, but don’t see any point in upgrading either. The value has really gone from their initial offers.

I’m quite sure you can save user presets in soundtoys. I don’t really use them and just dial in what I’m looking for each time, but I know lots of people sell presets online.

Unbroken1 I haven’t updated my V Collection for a few years now. Still use the Jup 8 for baselines. But that’s about it.

303abuser …like Henry I have quite a few already, Echoboy/Jr (which I love), Crystallizer, Little Plate, PhaseMistress, SpaceBlender (also a Roar fan for saturation needs).

Soundtoys quality is evident, but I use V Collection so extensively, kinda feel updating to the latest version makes more sense?

303abuser spaceblender is so good, can’t believe they gave it away for free. Toss it on a return track and it’s an instant evolving texture machine.

Unbroken1 lol my use of return tracks is obscene, i’m not joking when i say i’ve written songs with more returns than audio/midi tracks. sometimes i’ll just feed audio into returns (the outputs are all summed to a group) and that becomes the foundation of the song. it helps too if you make music that requires zero sound separation. 😉

FX Collection? I think I can sit this one out and wait until the next iteration. Don’t see any point upgrading everytime when they allow you to jump a release for the same price.

In other news, I picked up a second hand Oxi One and the Digitakt II is going on eBay. Keeping the Syntakt mind because of its drum and weird capabilities. The Oxi One is pretty deep as a sequencer. It’s going to take a while to get my head around it.

303abuser I ran out of samples! One of the annoying things about it is that it can’t stretch samples without degrading the sound quality. So I am always hitting a brick wall with which samples I can use, or what I can do with them. I will give it another go this weekend with the Oxi and ST and see where it goes. They are fetching a decent price on eBay so it is tempting to offload it.

Tons of good deals this season, but also a lot of good free stuff.

Getting in an Akai APC64 tomorrow. Don’t use Ableton, but I am interested in the standalone functionality for sequencing and general midi control.

Morty-C-137 Have looked at that a few times before - looks really good. If it wasn’t for my experiment with the Oxi I would probably get one, as I am crap at sequencing with the Push/Ableton.

Henry That makes sense. I’ve sort of questioned some of elektron’s recent decisions with the stretching stuff on the dt2 (it seems like a pretty basic feature), lack of overbridge, the tonverk in general. I paid $850 cad for my DT and it’s so worth that price. For what they’re charging now, there are definitely other options, as much of a fan of theirs as I am.

Yes I am curious to find out whether I will actually like sequencing with the APC64. Seems similar to Push but I must admit, without having any hands on experience yet with either Push or APC64 I do wonder if a basic XoX sequencer wouldn’t just be quicker and more straightforward.

But I am finding that extremely hard to find in a midi device for a reasonable price that is not also either a drum synth or sample at the same time. You quickly end up at Oxi one which would be overkill and too complex for what I need. Polyend would have been next in line but that is still quite a bit more money to pay for something I would not need it for: the onboard sampling and fx.

I wished Behringer would have stepped up and made such a midi device, but they havent yet. So far Akai had made some things that come close like the APC64. I would have liked an Akai Fire as a midi sequencer but that turns out to be software enabled with FL Studio only. So it’s not standalone baked in sequencer.

Morty-C-137 Kinky Roland, who I bought the Oxi from (I had no idea who he was until I checked when I got home), told me that he knows the guy who owns Behringer back from his days in Berlin and is a bastard nobody should ever buy their stuff. Said that as I was quickly trying to leave out of the door. I once had a set of Truth speakers which served me well for a long time though (which were my last words as I legged down the stairs with the Oxi One under my arm).
The Push is great for controlling stuff in Ableton, but is absolutely shite for sequencing. I really hate it for that. It’s possible to use the Oxi superficially without much knowledge and use with an Ableton drum rack and use polyrhythms etc - an absolute doddle.

303abuser I still don’t understand the Tonverk. One of the few bits of Elektron devices that I would never consider buying.
Tracks 3-7 were done on a combination of ST-DT2-DN - pretty much all of the tracks without having to add much from external sounds etc. Although the DN was only sparingly used. For the ST, mostly drums and FX.
I sold the DN a few months ago. I was planning on selling both the DT2 and ST but once I plugged in the ST after about 4 months of not using it, I realised that I don’t have anything to get some of the sounds it produces. Yes, some of them are very basic - but they are quite unique. And I haven’t really used them externally with any FX to any great degree. I think for me there’s definitely some mileage left it in.

Uli Behringer is absolutely supposed to be a plonker. The product lines are supposed to be variable in quality and you can form your own view on pushing out copies of other companies old IP. I have their SH101 copy and it sounds mega. I would never in a millions years spend a grand on an authentic version.

I have mine on my desk but totally agree with you on the push 2 pads just not feeling great. I only really have it up as I don’t want a midi keyboard taking up more desk space so I have it to tap in one shots etc. I have midi keyboards away from my desk which I play, but I’ve been drawing in more and more recently - possibly because the midi keyboards aren’t easily in reach. I don’t think I’d buy another iteration of it - the push 3’s are eye wateringly expensive so it’s not something I’d consider on that ground alone at the moment.

Henry Glad to see you’re getting some mileage out of it, I really like the ST, fits what I need really well. The FX block is really useful and like you said, great for drums, but with a bit of flavour, just takes some layering at times.
