Amps Haha it actually is, especially when it comes to sound design. Send fx work great for this kind of thing. All you need is a second or two of something cool to resample and start again. Find a chain you like, then experiment sending different samples into it to see what comes out.
One of the many things that took me a while to figure out is that you don’t need to start with intent. Just experiment until you find something that sounds good. Creating multiple parts from the same source works great to make sounds sit well together. For example start with a stab, resample it with a slow attack envelope, add delay/reverb to create a pad. Then resample parts of that pad to make other stabs or percussion. You end up with a palette that plays very well together.
