No votes for Serum?

i’ve never used serum. i think it’s really popular, but also older tech, not sure if that matters at all. pigments looks like the future to me, with the ability to use subtractive synthesis, granular, wavetable, samples, and noise layers all on the same patch, with a million modulation options, built in fx and sequencer.

Amps MEGA-SALE-20OFF code is good for $20 off, with no minimum purchase. they usually reset the code a couple of times during the sale too.

Serum is very cool, Pigments too. I’d add Analog Lab V (also from Arturia) and Roland Zenology I like a lot. If you want a cheap synth to mess about and learn on then Hybrid is an oldie but goodie and less than a tenner.

ArchimedesQ Analog Lab V (also from Arturia)

i haven’t used any of their synths outside of pigments, but they seem to be putting out really good software. i’m as happy with their fx bundle as i am with soundtoys.

Haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet, it’s so difficult to know where to start. Leaning towards Diva, just due to its scope and the amount of other users and tutorials etc. Really need to get more time in with Ableton though.

You’ve probs had / read this advice before but only get one synth (or a couple) and concentrate on learning it properly. It’ll make a world of difference when you get the inevitable avalanche of synths etc if you stick at it.

Amps you can’t go wrong with diva. that said, ua’s lion for $20 on sale is basically stealing. it sounds good, has infinite modulation capabilities, and comes with all of the byome fx built it. there’s a free demo too, but even if you hate it, you’re only out $20.

apyssjw this is good advice. once you learn subtractive synthesis, most hardware/software is basically the same.

apyssjw Yeah, this is very much my move, I need to learn it inside out, otherwise your just bumbling about.

here’s an excellent video around the mixing process …

This might come more under ‘general computer help’, but the new computer has been boss so far, but it’s started to have audio glitches… I can be listening to music in Ableton, and then when I scroll a web page in Chrome, the audio will glitch / distort. It goes for just about everything, listening to a track on Soundcloud, and then get glitches when I open the Control Panel etc. It appears the CPU has become a bit ‘spikey’ and it’s fucking the audio. Any thoughts on any fixes gents?

Amps two simple options to try … shut down everything that isn’t essential when working in ableton; and increase your buffer size in ableton (that will create some latency, but you may not have a choice).

303abuser Yeah, it’s less of an Ableton thing and more of a ’whole computer thing, doesn’t matter where the audio is coming from type thing’.

I’ve added more software slowly over the last week or so, and that is really the only changes, so might just do a factory reset and see how I get on.
