apyssjw yeah they’re both really good, it’s all of the modulation options that really add to it. too bad about the code, you probably missed it by a couple of hours at the most.

i love throwing byome on a return track for weird delays and textures. it’s just an endless world of possibilities.

303abuser Very much interested in buying this before my code expires. However…. Intel only for Mac. So will give this a miss as I don’t intend running Ableton via Rosetta 2.

Henry my m1 mini should be here this afternoon and i’ll be running ableton via rosetta anyways, as i’m on version 10 still. i’m really curious to see if this whole thing works or not. already i’ve had to buy a $180 hub to add ports and i still need a solution for fire wire, otherwise i need to buy a new audio interface too. it’s either going to be glorious or all of it is getting returned on monday.

Haha. Sure it’ll all be fine using Rosetta. Yeah, the dongle thing is a massive pain in the hoop. The new MacBooks have more ports thank fuck. Oh and apparently now you can replace stuff like the battery. Coincidentally all of this is happening now Jony ‘Minimalist’ Ive had done one and hopefully never returning.
I’m hoping the beta comes to an end soon, then I’ll probably jump onto the Silicon merry go round. However, I can see myself just using Ableton plugins and instruments, as NI and Arturia are still some way off the translation.
From what I have read though, the M1 through Rosetta is still pretty good. Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

i’ve read it’s all pretty good through rosetta, but i’m sure it’ll be another massive jump in performance once all the software is native. i may not be the best benchmark as i’m jumping from a 2012 mini, so it should be night and day, even if it’s not running near optimal performance yet. if i can not have to worry about bouncing to audio and running as many plugins as i want without thinking about it, life will be good.

funny, i hit post reply and my doorbell rang. let the tech fun begin.

How’s the M1 working out? Tell me you haven’t sent it back!

Henry haha it’s been a journey, but i think i have things mostly sorted. took a day to get everything migrated, deleted 300 gb of stuff i didn’t need, bought a usb/hdmi/tb hub, etc.

took another day to get the audio stuff going again. the software side seems easy enough, had to re-verify a bunch of plugins, and it seemed stable after an hour of use. my biggest issue so far is that my audio interface connects via firewire. that means either buying two more adapters for $100, buying a new interface, or the option i’m trying, which is to use the digitakt as the audio interface. i’ve got it working with ableton, but it’s frozen randomly on me twice already and i’m not sure what’s causing it. i also haven’t tried to monitor ableton and external synths at the same time, so i’m not sure how that’s going to work.

i don’t notice much difference in speed for normal tasks, but a existing projects that were constantly at 70-80% cpu on my 2012 with a 1028 buffer are running around 50% with a 128 buffer. it’s super quiet though, so that’s really helpful too. i assume there will be another equivalent jump in speed once ableton and the plugins are running natively vs through rosetta.

barring a massive catastrophe in the next few days, i think it’s safe to say i’ll be keeping it.

Great news that you’ve got it up and running. Interesting to hear how quiet it is too and hope that carries across to the new MacBooks. You’ll have to upgrade to 11 though if you want the benefits of the Silicon. 😀

i haven’t heard the fan come on yet, not even rendering wav files from ableton. especially because i use open back headphones, that’s really helpful. i’ll upgrade ableton when enough of my “can’t live without” plugins are m1 native. there are still quite a few that i use regularly (i’m looking at you arturia and surreal machines) that i need to be updated first.

303abuser He doesn’t look quite bat shit crazy enough in the photo for my liking.

Amps 😆 you should send him a strongly worded letter.

        • Amps replied to this.

303abuser You’d probably get a half decent response.

i’m not sure about the remix contest itself, but i signed up for the loopcloud free trial (which you have to do for the contest). with my mac now running usb audio straight into the digitakt, i’m going to absolutely pillage this site for samples for the next several days. i can just line up a bunch of stabs, record them straight to a chain in the digitakt, and the audio is perfect. i don’t think it’s supposed to work this way, but i kind of don’t care lol.
