i’d like to say i have enough mixing and utility software and that’s mostly true, but i just can’t see having enough creative tools. the unfiltered audio stuff (i may have everything they’ve put out) and tools like fragments add so much life and interest without a ton of effort. stick them on a return and just let them do their thing.

bus force isn’t a bad tool, i use it periodically, but not as much as i thought i would. i like it for glue and saturation on grouped tracks at times, but i don’t find it much faster than just doing that stuff with individual tools.

Henry thank you, i really like the original, i’ll have to actually listen to all of the other remixes too. i almost felt like i wasn’t working hard enough as it came together so quickly.

Mad_Cyril i’d be totally fine with it, i think it’s pretty cool to see what someone else can do with my source material. i also consider myself more of a technician than a real artist, so i kind of expect others to do better anyways.

Mad_Cyril You, generally, have to let go of a track to call it finished. I imagine its more common for a remix to be a bit disappointing rather than amazing tho - because amazing is the exception not the rule!

Quite frankly, I’ve liked possibly three remixes ever that have been done of my stuff. It’s gotten to the point where I ask labels not to have remixes unless I get to hand pick who it is and get right of first refusal on whether or not it comes out.

I don’t know if it’s just my ego that can’t take it or because remixes these days largely seem pointless and I’d rather release original music.

i picked up blyss on the kush audio sale this weekend. i’ve tried it out on individual tracks, mix busses, and on the master chain and it sounds amazing. really smooth saturation even when pushed, the eqs sound great. novatron is my go to compressor for most things and blyss is just as good.

303abuser …have the RE-20, it’s wild but lacks control (IMO), you can pick them up for a lot less than that though!

I’ve got a couple of new releases out today. First is the Carrier EP on Melotonin, 3 dub techno tracks with a bit of pace and lots of tape noise, it may actually work on the dance floor. 😅

The second is Serac, a single on the new Insectorama comp. This one is a bit heavier and dirtier.

Unbroken1 Yeah I’ve been keeping an eye on that one too. I’m holding off to settle on a workflow with my mixing board and ableton/ipad fx. Still cheaper than an actual space echo either way though.

303abuser …I’ll be honest, I’ve not used mine much, had it hooked up to the Isonoe for a bit but it’s way too uncontrollable to use for DJ’ing with (house music at least).

Reluctant to part with it though, cos one of these days I’ll get a proper production workflow going with my synth and drum machine and it’s cool to imagine the possibilities there.

Unbroken1 I absolutely can imagine how difficult it would be for dj’ing. Fantastic for dub and sound design, not so much for effecting music with a cleaner aesthetic on the fly.

I’m finally digging into the model 12 mixing board and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. My current setup is using it to jam out rough compositions on hardware, sort out the stems in ableton, then route it back to the board for live dub mixing. I’m actually really excited to see how this all works over the next few months.

Unbroken1 It took me a good week to sort out the routing and now I think I know how to adjust it for different setups. It’s super flexible, but that comes with complexity and some trouble shooting. Being able to route stems right to the board to dub out and track straight back in to ableton sounds like a pretty good flow. I really like the hybrid setup.
