303abuser It’s alright. I’m going through the same with Sylenth at the moment. Thinking “why have I never tried this thing before?!” Could have saved me a lot of faffing with other synths. It sounds so great.

I’m even considering their rent-to-own option as this thing almost never goes on sale and extremely rarely pops up in the second hand markets.

Anyhow.. as great as it sounds.. the price is steep €168.19 EUR (including VAT)

That’s about ⅓ the price of Omnisphere.

IndustryStandard Mad to listen to that, you realise how all the little details really make it, as what he makes just doesn’t have the same effect.

Also, and I know this isn’t news, but how fuckin good do Leftfield still sound. Leftisim is so far ahead of so much that is being made and has been made since it’s release.

Basslines my friend. Thank me later. Since you tend not to make screechy scratchy stuff with lots of filter sweeps, that’s where that thing will blow your head clean off. It also excels at FX (sweeps, LFO blips and bleeps, risers, etc.) and lead sounds. A subtle machine it is not. You can also make some pretty killer drum sounds with it too because the envelopes are nice and snappy.

It’s a bottomless pit. I’ve got a modest hardware set up and I probably could do without half of that too, if my only goal was to just finish tracks as quickly as possible. My ms-20 mini almost never ends up in anything I finish, but I love messing around with it. Throw in another half dozen soft synths and I should be able to create any sound in existence. That is if I knew what I was doing.

Yah, that’s the bitch part about it. After a while the gear and tinkering and trying new stuff becomes a hobby/distraction. Sometimes a welcome distraction. Sometimes as an excuse not to finish shit.

That’s the nice part about it being a hobby, I feel no pressure one way or the other, as long as I’m enjoying it. Plus with dub, half the time I’m just creating fx chaos anyways, so there’s a lot of overlap between noodling and actually writing music.

As a newbie I’m still checking out various synths and stuff. I have a few, Serum, and a couple of others, but my favourite has got to be Diva at the moment. Just love the sounds it makes. Seems to be a bit less complicated than a lot of them too.

ArchimedesQ Diva is really good. Super flexible, immediate, but with lots of depth if you want to get into it, and it sounds great. That and pigments are almost always the first soft-synths I reach for (except for acid, that’s the domain of abl3).

ArchimedesQ Sylenth also very straightforward and great sounding as an virtual analog synth. Only recently tried that one. I am well versed in synths like Vital and Zebra. Although I minimized my plugin collection a while ago and now mostly stick to Waves Element 2 for anything classic analog synth style and Vital for most others.

Dan Know it well. Went to Uni at Imperial at Wye and lived in Ashford for a few years after. Pre HS1 so was a different world back then……lol. Big free party scene back then. Sound system in a Landy bowling around trying to find a spot. Great days

There are just so many great sounding soft synths out there. NI just retired Absynth - which is still amazing (IMHO) after 20 odd years.
