Phil-McRackin finished it earlier, a genuinely horrific chapter in British history. So many culpable parties. I get the point Neill is trying to make, not sure I agree with the “public creating him” part though, they created the celebrity for sure. You get the impression people were fully aware but because of the connections they could do fuck all about it. With the recent Prince Andrew revelations you’d have to say there’s a network in place that’s not only still protected but is probably unbreakable as its a lifestyle. It’s bananas how much Savile revealed in interviews, certain things he would say etc. Also the clip live on Top of the Pops where he’s quite clearly groping a girl as he’s presenting but it’s being blocked by another in front of them. The Clunk Clink show with him and Glitter surveiling the girls in the crowd. Loads knew it was happening, it was too obvious.
It’s weird how some of the footage triggered some memories of how often he was on the tv as a kid, the distinctive voice, and as soon as I heard the Fix It theme tune I was back in the 80s in my living room, I always thought the tracksuit zipped down at the front with the vest combo was weird, even as a kid.
