Was recommended this author by a friend. Clearly a talented writer but this really would have benefited from a trim…..1,070 pages all in, I’d say 20% of it could have been cut with no detriment to the overall story.

Now moved on to Hubert Selby Jr - The Willow Tree

It was indeed. I usually like to read a book in a week if I can but this one took me 3. I can’t fathom how someone can produce that much writing…. presumably it was edited at least a little bit so his first draft was even longer!

Just read Mayflies by Andrew Hagan - not an unreasonably upsetting book. Starts off brilliantly with in the 80s with a trip to Manchester to a music festival featuring The Fall, New Order and The Smiths.

John Connolly - he

A fictionalized biography of Stan Laurel. Absolutely brilliant, didn’t think I’d like it (I’m a big fan of his slightly supernatural Charlie Parker mysterious, a serious literature take on Laurel & Hardy didn’t seem like a thing I’d like) but loved it, and devoured it. Fuck me those two had some lives. Comedians are supposed to lead miserable lives, but Laurel especially took it to some lenghts.

Just finished ‘The Willow Tree’ by Hubert Selby Jr.

One of the best books I’ve read in the last 10 years I’d say. I had forgotten how much I love his writing style. I’ve got just one more of his to read and then I will have read his whole back catalogue.

Now moved onto ‘Complete short stories ’ by Graham Greene , another author I rate highly

More anxiety inducing action from King, this time with a ‘fuck the system’ flavour. Nothing like the film, but good fun all the same.

Amps Richard Bachman wrote that one. They’re my favourite set of books he wrote - Thinner is a belter. Hoped for better from the film to be honest, but they’re both excellent in isolation I suppose
