vinnyt77 this is my super power. i can completely forget the entire plot of a movie within a week of watching it. i get to watch great movies over and over and it’s always like the first time lol.

I watched Requiem for a Dream when it first came out, in an arty cinema IIRC and loved it.

Then watched it again around 2010 and thought “fuck me, this is only 10 years old but it seems really dated”.

Then I watched it again about a year ago and that it is well 2000 makes it seem timeless now. Weird how that happens. This is the most ‘Year 2000’ thing in any movie ever, I think…

303abuser I’m usually like that as well. Same with books. Can happily re-read my favourite novels every 12-24 months without really recalling a lot about the plot.

Requiem for a Dream was different - there was just so much bound up in the last 5 mins of the movie that I can frankly never shift from my mind, that made it feel like a bad idea to revisit it. First time I watched, was quite literally sitting on the edge of my seat with my heart racing at the end of the movie….

Millsy haha the funny thing is, it’s just movies and tv shows. my memory is generally really good and i’ve had this super power forever. i think i just focus on different things maybe and i’m not actively encoding memory. i just watched all 5 seasons of the wire for the 2nd time and i probably know the names of 6 characters.

SM001 we still really liked it the second time through, with the obvious exception of the last season. zero quality control on the writing at the end.

vinnyt77 it’s actually been on my watch list for a while, just haven’t gotten to it. i saw it 20ish years ago and don’t remember a single thing about it, outside a vague feeling that it was both good and disturbing, but i don’t even know how accurate that is. time for a revisit.

A lot of movies from the ’90’s are like this now. Highly stylized. “Electronica” soundtracks. Drugs being a plot point. They’re almost period pieces.
