OK, so you’re not going to hit the absolute coffee heights you might be looking for but you’re guaranteed a seven or an eight out of ten day in day out. The James Milner/ Gareth Barry of caffeinated beverage solutions if you will.
Whenever I have been in Aldi, all the coffee has been robusta. Which I don’t like buying but bought anyway because I was passing and couldn’t be arsed waiting until I got to a different supermarket. I have bought a couple of different bags from there - I couldn’t tell you the exact type but in both cases it had a nasty, astringent taste. I assume the pods are also robusta not arabica.
There are some things that Aldi do well, cheap (for example, their own brand vanilla ice cream, called something like ‘Gianni’ is way better than most supermarkets’ own brand), but coffee (and steaks) from there are an absolute swervio.
