DJ setups/Mixer porn/New toys thread...
303abuser …I guess you can only do what you can do though, I’m lucky to have a dedicated room and am unlikely to find another.
I see pics of lots of producers studios online that are have huge windows (Butch comes to mind, he has one of those cool garden office things with bifold doors running the length of it). Ultimately, it’s probably as much about coming to terms with the space you have and learning its flaws.
i’m lucky that way too, but i had to make aesthetic concession with the wife when we built the house. studio looks great, just not a good acoustic setup. if we sell the house and end up being mortgage free in the near future, i’m really considering building a garden shed studio setup. dedicated electricity, sound proofing, proper acoustics, etc. for now, i’ve learned my headphones well enough to get by. the guy that does my mastering has been amazing when it comes to giving me feedback and it’s really accelerated my learning curve.
Mad_Cyril Rekordbox has a few features that would make life easier so ditching the Traktor S2 (up for grabs if anyone interested before I chuck on ebay).
Interested to know more about the features that make life easier? Trying to decide if i should stick with traktor or move across to Rekordbox myself at the moment….

mono-stereo
The ability to link tracks that work well together.
Automated suggestions about what might work.
Can up to cloud version so can listen anywhere.
The first 2 should help me get off level 0 without draining too much time. Which is a big barrier for me right now.
The last gives me a load of flexibility.
Not exactly purist, but right now I’d like to learn to mix
Mad_Cyril The ability to link tracks that work well together.
Does that function work well?
Along_the_Wire
Just seen the demos and spoken to Matt via PM.
Has to be better than trying to remember from the night before!
Along_the_Wire I use it all the time.
When I’m messing about, If I discover a couple of tracks that I think go well together, Just click on the little link icon and they are saved as “matching” tracks.
I find it really useful for keeping track of tunes that go well together

Matt What about the automated suggestions mate?
Along_the_Wire Not sure about that. I’ve never used it.
I use the related track filters and the matching tracks feature. I have a few playlists set up but usually just play from the main collection, which is a couple of thousand tunes. The filters are just handy for narrowing that down to a more manageable size. Then the matching tracks, I just use to keep track of mixes that I like.
There are probably better ways to use rekordbox. That’s just the way I’ve come across that works for me
Heno how do you select tracks and stuff on the USB if there’s no screen? Also can you record straight onto USB? I like the idea of not needing a laptop when you just fancy a quick mixing sesh.
