Picked up a pair of Mission 702 speakers off FB yesterday. They sound much better than my old wharfedales but are a lot bigger

I am having a right old mare with the Denon SC Live 4. I just cant work out/settle on a process to get tracks from my laptop, to the USB, to the controller. I seem to just end up with one huge folder of 500 tracks. Folder management eh?

I’ll prob be spending tonight watching YT vids to try and decipher it all

Hi mate

Use engine prime
Make playlists in engine that were in the names of the folders if you’ve basically made them by category (otherwise make playlists in names of mood or genre - whatever works best for your brain)
In future you can just abandon the idea of saving your tunes in folders for playlists and just save them in 2025, 2026 etc
Use your engine as your library from now on
Create a USB stick formatted in MSDOS FAT32 (Master Boot Record) and
Down the bottom left of engine somewhere there is a Devices or Sync type button - use that menu to port your playlists onto the usb
Give it a while until it says 0 jobs running down the bottom of engine - and then eject the stick. Put that into your SC Live 4 and click Source > usb name. Then playlists - and you’re DJing the way it’s meant to work on Denon. Should be nice and fast.

I started again - wiped the USB stick clear of all files. Tidied up my folders on my laptop and sorted all purchases into year (I only started in 2022 so wasnt onerous).

Copied that into Engine DJ on the laptop, then used the sync manager to add those folders to the USB - and all good.

I presume the next time I purchase some tracks, I just add them to the relevant folder on my laptop and repeat the process (and it will only sync the new additions to the USB stick)?

Saying it out loud I’m not even sure there’s any point in me doing that given the below.

Also regarding protecting your efforts - I make use of the backup feature from time to time in Rekordbox (I’m sure engine has one). I do mine after a major haul of music usually every week when finding and organising a lot. If I ever lost this I would cry!

My music folder containing the mp3/wav files etc is backed up on Dropbox automatically so if I had a fire or broken laptop I could be up and running in a few hours but the “library” file contains what you’ve just built and that (if not all
The files as well) needs backing up so your efforts now can remain safe.

Check on YouTube how to do that though as I’m not sure!

That’s the easiest way, you’re basically replicating your library and tunes on your USB.

You can also just wipe the USB and replicate a specific folder only by deselecting what you dont want (on the USB).

That’s probably for another day (if you ever need the capacity)

CDJ-3000 upgrade coming imminently, possibly as soon as next week.

Rumoured to be called the CDJ-3000x - my guess is it will have inbuilt wifi for streaming services and Device Library Plus (richer text content / search / graphic display like AZ / Opus) plus other upgrades.

For those who use it ideally it would incorporate stems inbuilt but Pio always seem years behind - the last CDJ should have had wifi so I would be very surprised if the onboard CPU would this time be powerful enough.
