The MS I have does have beat synch but the FX aren’t really what I want - a little left field.

I need something simple and controllable, preferably not too expensive. That I can use to;

A) Lob delays and shit in.
B) obscure ropey mixing

Some obscure Bolivian teak wah wah pedal isn’t for me, even if it looks nice with house plants and sounds totes amaze!!

Mad_Cyril Mixer send to an ipad/computer with software fx is a decent setup, just maybe not super portable if you need that. Looking at pedals, there might be some deals on used strymon stuff with the v2 update last week. Deco and bluesky would make nice companions. 😉

…RMX500 or a 2nd hand 1000 sounds your best bet. Can’t promise it’ll obscure the dodgy mixes tho!

NasserAlazzawi I would have loved to have picked one up as they look great, but had to weigh up all the pros and cons really. Pros were I can afford it and it looks nice, cons were I’ve never used digital before, I wouldn’t know where to start with it and I’ve no plans to play out so it just would be knocking mixes up for my own use.

If I take to the DDJ-400 and get halfway competent with it, I am deffo not ruling out upgrading down the line.

gcw you’re probably right, but you’ll get rid and have an XZ no time, but you won’t lose too much selling the 400 in 6 months. Losing the laptop is my favourite thing - it’s amazing how much you just know how tunes work without the crutches.

Unbroken1 Yeah, I’ve been avoiding watching demos like the plague. 😂

It looks really good too, although I think I’d take the zen delay first as I’ve got a few space echo emulations already. I’m hoping the ipad setup I’m running keeps the gas at bay for a while.

Think I’ll pick up something like an EFX unit cheap, no great loss if it doesn’t work.

Complicated, fiddly or computer-related setup doesn’t really work now I’ve moved to some Media Players and a mixer

Mad_Cyril Yeah fair enough. The ipad works great if you already have one that’s capable and an audio interface to connect it to the mixer, as the apps are pretty cheap. A good delay and reverb will probably cover most of what you need, so a couple of cheap pedals might be as good or better than an all in one box. Lots of options now.

I’m still a while away from using and enjoying FX skilfully - getting to grips with loops is where I’m at.

Mad_Cyril Yeah, check out strymon for high end stuff, but there’s a wide range available. Nice thing about pedals is you can change them in new ways for different fx. If you’re looking for delay/reverb specifically, the new re-202 space echo damo posted above looks pretty amazing.

…I’d still say pedals are a facking nightmare for DJ use! Didn’t have my Boss Space Echo connected for long, capable of sounding amazing but completely uncontrollable

Unbroken1 Apparently the new strymons have midi which would likely help. I’m sort of in that live performance world much more so than dj’ing, so maybe my advice doesn’t apply very well haha.

303abuser …yeah, great for live sets and Traktor stem mangling for the techno dudes. Still only a limited number of DJ mixers sending out midi clock though.

Not particularly a fan of Pio’s FX, but they are definitely the most user-friendly for DJ’s that I’ve found.

Really, no midi yet? Even my tascam model 12 has midi, but I guess that’s more of a small studio desk. Seems like it would be standard with today’s tech, everything has a usb connection now.

Dubman do you ever get L&R levels on your decks lopsided? Not sure if its just the record or the inaccurate VU levels on my mixer, but sometimes one sides output is much greater than the other. Ive swapped carts, played on another deck etc. Also had the decks serviced and new leads. Still get it from time to time.

Wonder if anyone else gets the same issue?
