Mad_Cyril the icing on the cake can wait!
What monitors do you all have and why do you like them over others? It’s quite the minefield out there and wouldn’t mind a decent shortlist to go and try out
Along_the_Wire I really like the Focal Alpha 80s mate. Something about their range and sound that chimes well with me. Compared them with the rokits the other day in a studio room and just loved how clear they sounded. A lot is personal preference, but worth a look imo.
Lot of plaudits for the Rokits to be fair
Go big or go home Grant. New batch released yesterday…
Mad_Cyril too much even for me, but fuck me, that’s tempting!
Here’s another tedious question as I’m getting bespoke stand made. What gaps to do have between the mixer and CDJs / decks? How much space will you need at the end of the setup?
Along_the_Wire Adam T-series for best value for money all the way man. I’ve had T5Vs as booth-output, and T8Vs as the master in our livingroom for two years and absolutely love them. I’ve compared to Rokits, and Adam is much better. They even work well for just listening to music (the “PA” is facing the couch, and the easy chair where I most of my reading) too, which is always dicey with studio monitors.
Along_the_Wire enough for your beverage at least.
Along_the_Wire Use the biggest table you have in your gaff and mock it up. Personally I like a nice wide coffin, substantial looking, lots of space, but it depends on what you have to work with. Depth being important too.
Please tell me you’re not having things on poles? Cdjs on poles / stands, or speakers on poles / stands look gash imo. Just get a decent shelf.
Something along these lines, would be nice, not keen on the finish or location though.
If its bespoke then measure the width of all your equipment then add maybe ½″ either side plus extra for the ends. If you’ve got a lot of vinyl which will be stored underneath then that needs to be taken into account also.
Amps cheers - no, plan to have a shelf across the top of the decks - seen a really good looking one
Work tables seem quite good for a home DJ set up, just need to figure out the monitor-situation. But they’re sturdy, right height, and don’t cost a fortune.
All a bit of a mare getting a table specific to my needs. I’ve got our old builder coming round and building one for me - will work at much cheaper and to my exact specs.
Along_the_Wire that’s sweet. Might do that at some point, I have a really specific desing on my mind too. My current one is a Frankenstein’s monster of Ikea and other cheap shelves held together with a large piece of glued laminated timber board.
Along_the_Wire The height of the table is key. Give yourself at least 100cm height
