A friend of mine played last at the Orkidea-party back in December, and borrowed my ATH 50s. He must be near deaf because now they distort a bit. He must’ve put them on 11. So I needed new gig headphones, as I’m hesitant to take the Phonon’s outside of my home, as they cost a lot, and are discontinued now. So got these classic cans:

Released in 1991, and still in use in many studios, and by a few DJs (Burridge comes to mind), and no wonder. They sound really good, and pack a punch, especially for 100 €. I also won’t be too heartbroken to lose them, or break them drunk with that price.

Homegrove only issue with them is once they become worn the ear covering comes apart and showers you with black confetti that sticks to your face and neck.

Rocking a pair of Pioneer HDJ 700s . Got them on sale in 2016 for 99 bucks. Just order new pads as the foam on the original ones is flaking off.
As a back up I also have Audio Technica M40s ..they are awesome, detail-sounding.

Homegrove …used them for a few years and loved ‘em. Remember I paid something like £150 for my first pair from the States before they were available over here, which was a chunk of change at the time.

Had the showering with black bits of foam experience… I’d also say I found them too fragile for DJ’ing, they are primarily studio cans and aren’t built for a hammering.

You would have thought they would have fixed the material in the cups if the model still sells 30+ years on.

You can buy spare pads. I’ve had mine since about 1996 and theyve only had a new extra long coiled lead, about 4 sets of pads and that’s it. Nothing comes close to them for the money and most don’t that come at 3 times the price. Mine have been battered and still going strong. Incidentally Ive been using a leather and vinyl conditioner that is for the car interior on my latest pads and they are, I reckon, 3 to 4 years old. It’s definitely stopping them falling apart like the previous ones.

anyone used an audi interface (UAD appolo, Antilope etc) as a send return for effects from a laptop? Or to bring in drum tracks/loops from a DAW? Trying to work out if it’s worth the hassle.

mono-stereo Not for dj’ing, but I use the iPad as an fx processor on a send in the studio. Not sure if I’d bother with it for playing out, but it’s a nice option and more flexible than say pedals or other standalone hardware fx.

Amps they do look nice don’t they. It’s a shame they couldnt really catch up with Pioneer after the CDJ 1000.

Amps a lovely piece of kit but flawed in so many ways. I went down that wormhole for a few weeks trying to justify they would be a sound purchase, went on the forums, looked at custom firmware upgrades, SD card options 20 yrs after release etc etc etc

Came out the wormhole to realise they look the nuts but next to useless nowadays apart from a fancy CD player that you wont use, as we are all too lazy nowadays to go through the motions of playing a CD, opting to just stream instead.
