RichM He did 2 gigs one after the other in the venue, each one well over 2 hours. Amazing performer
Was recently listening to an interview with his longest serving personal assistant. She was with him for pretty much all of the peak years. 1982-1992, or something like that. The topic of how he was supposed to be a monster to work for came up, which she didn’t dispute at all. But what she did say was he was so difficult to work for because he quite literally never stopped working. She said he would record music all of the time he wasn’t rehearsing. All of it. She had an anecdote of him lecturing the crew about what an important thing a record contract was, and how they all needed to respect and honor it. LOL! According to her he would take a hand full of 20 minute breaks, and even then he would go roller skate or play ping pong, and make sure multiple people were there to capture the magic. I don’t doubt he was a totally insane person, and impossible to work for/with but I have to ask: as a general fan of art isn’t this what you want your artists to act like? I guess it doesn’t really matter, if the output is there, but let’s be honest; most of the time it is not. The George Harrison vid is the perfect example. He is amongst some complete heavy weights up there, and he out classes all of them with fucking ease. The dude never stopped to dine out on any single tune or release, and that is beyond rare. RIP to an absolute titan.
