Amps ok so, I wouldn’t say I really learned anything here but it was a fairly interesting if long-winded lecture.
I’m not sure if I agree with his take entirely. I agree that the west likes to kid themselves that they are the force of good acting against the darkness of Russia. I agree that the west must have, or should have, known that Russia would kick off if they kept boxing them in with their proxies, especially since Russia clearly warned everyone again and again that they wouldn’t wear it.
But those countries chose liberal democracy, didn’t they? The west pulled strings and greased a few palms, sure, but you can only lead a horse to water. I don’t know what the west was meant to do. Is this guy saying that they should have somehow inhibited the spread of democracy and the freedom to seek accession in order to enable a peaceful coexistence with the soviet kleptocracy ? Or is he postulating that the west deliberately stirred the hornets nest and provoked the bear into a flight?
And is he saying that Russia is really no worse than the west? Call me brainwashed but I’m not fully convinced that’s true, as imperfect as the west is.
