loopdokter they’re convient for me to get into downtown at a leisurely pace whenever I’m over staying with my friend in Mississagua, but I wouldn’t want to be commuting on them for sure.

303abuser Naveed is still a great record, can’t say I really followed them much after their fist two albums though. They were half decent opening for GnR a couple of years ago.

They’re garbage. End of. They’re typical Canadian band propped up by Canadian Content (AKA CanCon where 35% of all radio/TV content has to be Canadian produced) rules on radio and TV. They wouldn’t have a chance of making it outside of the country because they’re shit. They’re not like The Tragically Hip where the reason they didn’t make it big anywhere else is because their lyrical content was all about things in Canada.

Although I will give Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace props for his wife. He definitely married up in the looks department and with a much better musician in Chantal Kreviazuk:

Ahh, right. If you’re not in a rush and want to have some extended train beers, they’re not so bad.

I would use rail all the time to go into Toronto if it were better because traffic is almost as bad as the rail network. I live in Kitchener and it blows my mind that service doesn’t run more frequently here. The train makes so many stops along the way it’s really frustrating.

Next time you’re across the pond give me a shout. 🙂

Those would be my observations too.

Yeah, next time I’m over I’ll mention it for sure. Now that things are getting back to normal, I’ve been invited to a wedding in Chicago in September, so if I go I would fly through Toronto to see my friend who’s just had another baby (not mine I might add 🤣).

Was a time I was over about twice a year for a few consecutive years. Spend most of the time in Toronto, but have managed to see a fair amount of the country from coast to coast now. Often lay over on my way to Pittsburgh to watch my beloved Penguins and Steelers play too 😆

Alright Friday people, you’re tuned in to Drivetime here on Jaded FM. I’m your fill-in host ‘Jaguar’ Jay Kaufman. Growwwwwwwwwl! Once again, I picked this shift up because Dave’s still on hols in Benidorm and Millsy’s stuck in the loo - yet again!

As some of you may have heard through my voice, I’m not from around these parts - although my Mockney accent and knack for British vernacular might (not) have some fooled. That’s right, I’m from Canada. Did I mention Canada?! C-A-N-A-D-A! Man, have I got stories! Ha-ha! Growwwwwwwwwwwl!

So with that in mind, I’m going to play you some tunes that would be big for the commuters back home in Canada. Some of these you may know, others you may not. Did I mention Canada? Ha-ha! Growwwwwwwwwl!

Anyway, slather some maple syrup on your scones, point towards the beaver and mount your horses on the journey home as we guide you into the weekend for the next hour - completely commercial free - at Drivetime here on Jaded FM! This is Helix, from my hometown of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada with ‘Rock You’. Growwwwwwl!

This one goes out to Scott Bailey!

Growwwwwlllllll! You’ve been listening to Drivetime on Jaded FM completely commercial free for the last two hours! I’m your fill-in host Jaguar Jay Kaufman. It turns out Mad Millsy is STILL stuck in the gents. Honestly, your best guess is as good as mine as to what takes him so bloody long! He was supposed to do the last hour of today’s Friday show, but I think he’s fallen in, so they gave me the additional hour to fit in all of my favourite Canadian content AKA CanCon. Growwwwwwwwwwwwl!

In Canada, CanCon was started by the Canadian government in the early 1970s as an effort to bolster the Canadian music scene. At the time, music was heavily dominated by American and British acts, so Canadian artists had very little chance of getting radio play unless they left the country. That gets a meowwwwwwwwwwww from me instead of a growwwwwwwl! By law, Canadian radio stations have to play 40% Canadian content in between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Stations who do not comply are fined up the wazoo! It has to meet the MAPL criteria - which means
M (music) — the music is composed entirely by a Canadian
A (artist) — the music is, or the lyrics are, performed principally by a Canadian
P (performance) — the musical selection consists of a performance that is:
Recorded wholly in Canada, or Performed wholly in Canada and broadcast live in Canada.
L (lyrics) — the lyrics are written entirely by a Canadian

As you’ve heard, this created an ecosystem that was ripe for the taking by Canadian artists - especially in the late 1970s and 1980s. Many of these bands never made it except anywhere in Canada, but are well known to Canadians even to this day because of CanCon. They get all kinds of drive-time play all over my home nation! Growwwwwwwwwl!

Anyway, seeing as that’s me signing off, I’ve got one more for you. We all work hard for for the weekend, so string up your guitar and rock on with your socks off! I’m Jaguar Jay Kaufman and this has been Drivetime! …Straight from Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada this is Loverboy, with "Working For The Weekend’ here on Drivetime on Jaded FM. Growwwwwwwwllllllllllllllll!

ScottBailey Yeah, next time I’m over I’ll mention it for sure. Now that things are getting back to normal, I’ve been invited to a wedding in Chicago in September, so if I go I would fly through Toronto to see my friend who’s just had another baby (not mine I might add 🤣).

Cool beans. Are you a Yank or from the UK? I would assume Yank because of your liking Pittsburgh teams in sports that aren’t popular in the UK?

Toronto’s a great town. I wouldn’t want to live there, but there’s so much going on pretty much all the time. You can eat and experience culture from every single country in the world and not once have to leave Toronto. Electronic music events are starting to ramp up again - I’m off to see Georgia Angiuli live tomorrow.

303abuser Fair enough, Naveed is still fucking gold though.

I thought I’d mull over this for a bit and reconsider. Nope.

Our Lady Peace are STILL shit, always were shit and will always be shit. A close second to Nickleback and in the same category as Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, etc. for the worst music Canada has been responsible for producing.

This just came on in the hotel bar, a stone cold driving classic

loopdokter lol I’m going to question your credibility relating our lady peace to nickelback. They’re not great by any stretch, but they’re no where near that bad. Either way, it’s not really worth debating over one good record.

This showing is hands down worse than Loops stealing money.

              Absolute abortion. Late term.

jonattonyeah I’ll be texting Sean Cusick immediately

I don’t know if it was a joke or they (likely) just fucked up, but on that Delta Heavy documentary someone recently posted I saw that Diggers called him “Sean Cusack” and the on-screen caption for him said the same.

                  jonattonyeah

If you only knew how uncool that comment is.

He wouldnt leave me the fuck alone. I only ever briefly met him once when he tried to blag a record off me. He’s bipolar.

So yeah, best not to talk about anything you have no idea about.

loopdokter I saw him open for Sasha in Calgary once, I’ve never seen anyone dj in a mood that bad. Cary Chang was opening (he’s a solid dj and played a very reasonably paced set), Cusick didn’t even let his last record play out, he just picked the needle up half way through. His set was actually really good, just came off as a total asshole.

Old-Dutch Ha a bit. He was a good guy, owned record shops here and in Calgary, always super nice to everyone.

loopdokter So yeah, best not to talk about anything you have no idea about

It’s the internet. That’s the internet’s entire purpose.

                        jonattonyeah

So instead of saying apologizing or admitting you truly have no fucking clue what you’re talking about regarding the matter, you double down on being a complete cunt.

You must be a treat to be around.

These next two reminds me of long overnight trips on the autobahn

This is a tried and tested classic with the volume up full in the car

                        a year later
