Maxims, yeah that’s the one. Proper Sharon and Tracey venue. Assume you don’t live in Somerset these days?

whatever did you ever get to Pawlett Manor? I was too young at the time, but apparently used to be a right sweatbox of a rave there!
I did! Know it very well. Proper rough place. Was bulldozed years ago. They had a good rep for running house nights and Happy Hardcore and bangin’ techno/hard house really took hold. Was infamous, as you probably know, because the Sun ran an expose about one of their reporters buying crack there. I discovered Lakota and a range of other ‘proper’ clubs after that so it was really just my entree into house music, I guess.
whatever nope, moved to London in 2006. Went back there last weekend for my 40th and Maxims is bizarrely a restaurant now. It’s like eating dinner in an aircraft hanger (yes I went for nostalgia)

My family used to work there every year on the Kids area. That’s how I got in. Got there a week before to help set it up. We also had our own private camping area right in the middle. With security at the entrance. I think it was 2004 & the weather was horrific with massive thunderstorms and major floods & heavy mud. Still had a great time though. Would definitely go back but only in a campervan.
It’s a restaurant now! I imagine the smell of stale tobacco, piss and lager still lingers. Same, I moved to London in 2008 (although I moved around quite a lot overall).
I reckon our paths may have even crossed at some point in Somerset history and probably knew some of the same people.
whatever there were a few places I missed. I missed Tony De Vit cutting his teeth at Kingston’s in Taunton, and I missed Sasha at Lakota too. But I used to go to a wicked night at Timbuk2 in Bristol called Empathy run by Stu Wilkinson and Jim Rivers. Both top lads

Most probably
Yeah, TDV played a lot in the west country in general. Saw him a number of times in different places. Think Sasha at Lakota was slightly before my time as well. The classic mixtape seems to be from around 93. Used to go to Fandango nights and saw so many amazing DJs. Was a bit worse for ware one night and got speaking to the resident DJ there, Mark Davis. Think I had asked him for a recording of one of the nights. Promptly forgot about it completely and then a tape turned up about 2 weeks later. Really top guy. Completely blown away by his kindness. Went out and about in Bristol quite a lot before moving onto the London venues.
Fuck yeah.
whatever nice! Reckon you must have been to the odd Marc Vedo/Matt Black night at Koolwaters at Deller’s wharf too
Mad_Cyril well in, MC! When the red red robin comes bob, bob bobbin’ along
Mad_Cyril Larf owt lowd!
Yeah went to his nights quite a bit including the club that he started his nights, around the corner from Deller’s (can’t remember what it was called). Wasn’t a fan of what he played but he had some good guest DJs. Feels like a lifetime ago
Is it a klang if I say I’m close friends with one of The Wurzels?! I’m guessing not…..
I’m leaving at 5. Hopefully catch Billy Bragg, Jon Hopkins, Fourtet and Diggers. Get in!
