ScottBailey Think a bit of this might be to do with what plumbers want to fit. Had my boiler repaired before Christmas, and mentioned to the bloke about looking into an eclectic boiler as a possible future replacement, he nearly lost it. I have a mate who went all in on the heat pump action and is loving it. I’m sure it will all come out in the wash.

Considering the amount of work you need to do to instal them and the costs involved there’s no way I’ll ever be intalling one in my house. A lot of question marks over how much better they are for the environment than traditional boilers too. Smacks of opportunism to fleece people by guilt tripping them. A bit like BP with the whole carbon footprint scheme. Let’s blame the consumers of our filth for using it - we’ll even charge them a 25% green tax levy to clean up their act - the dirty fuckpigs

Amps this is why I stated he’s a family friend. Working in the electrical industry myself I know how lazy some tradesman can be, but I can definitely rely on him for solid advice. As I said, he’s had so many customers install them (even after advice), only for him to go back and uninstall them months down the line. Sure there are some goods stories out there too, but I wasn’t going to buy into it with with the advice I was given. He’d have made more money off me installing one in the first place, instead of putting in the combi I went with.

I think the pumps and elecy boilers have much longer lives though, less maintenance needed, less work for trades etc. Again, happy to be wrong. I have no skin in the game. Hope we collectively sort something that doesn’t see us burnt to crisp.

Just to lighten the mood, its not increasing temps we need to be worried about, we’re currently in a galactic window that will last until 2040 where we are in grave danger of an outer planetary object crashing into us similiar to the one that hit during the Younger Dryas period that killed off most of advanced civilisation and plunged us into 300 years of black rain and constant darkness. Amps Graham Hancock, Randall Carlson and a plethora of geologists and astronomists have been banging this drum for years. Their research has pushed back the real age of the Sphinx etc.
Have a read of Magicians of the Gods, a really interesting book with some convincing evidence.

The consensus is that the whole galaxy is passing through the tail of a giant object (name escapes me), the same tail we passed through 12′000 years ago. Out of this came the asteroid that broke into bits and collided with us. Hancock explains that there isn’t one object that can be identified but rather that we’re passing through the tail again and we’re at risk of the same outcome. Nobody predicted 2040 as the year of an impact, there is a window that lasts 35 years or so as we pass through it, ending around 2040.

Does anyone else remember in the run up to 2012 when absolutely loads of people thought the world was going to end?

I feel like I’ve seen a few of these milestones where convincing theories never seem to bear fruit.

Although I have gone from believing in global warming, to thinking everything is alright / cyclical, back to believing in global warming again.
