C_J You can’t lay all the blame at the feet of colonial attitudes and there has to be a degree of responsibility taken by the minority communities too of course

Quoted for posterity.

My company have “designated this Friday as a “Day of Solidarity” to celebrate Juneteenth, urging its employees to spend the day learning about the history of racism and taking steps to fight injustice.

So I’m on the beers now, which is nice.

    Hursty

Another absolute shit show mate. So uncle Ben only made the lovely rice because he was a slave for some white folk and it’s not fair to make money from that eh?

Hursty I followed it up with a White Russian, I’m done for!

      RACIST.

      Hursty One for Si…

Uncle Bens is rebranding its products to remove the image of the black man who portrayed ‘Uncle Ben’.

      Racist bastards.

Oh it’s not just Uncle Ben. Aunt Jemima, Mrs. Butterworth and the Cream of Wheat branding are out the door too.

I don’t know what to think about any of this.

Other than considering packing it all in and buying a house in the woods near Yosemite. I don’t care who my neighbors are. I just want less of them right now. Work from home and all that. I’ll die in a wildfire, sure, but I’ve had a good run so whatever.

        Dreadful

6 black men have been found hanging from trees in public places during the past two weeks in America, and all have been ruled suicide.

I’m being a bit hyperbolic there. Given my COVID circumstance, finally being able to get back to “life”, so to speak, and then feeling all the tension in the air here in Oakland when I am outside…it’s just a lot. Maybe if I was out and about through all of this, the change might feel more gradual. But I don’t have that luxury, unfortunately.

Given the rates of suicide here, they probably were. And that’s the really sad thing. Oh, he wasn’t murdered by a cop or some mob, he just killed himself. Whelp. Move on, I guess. The state of mental health for Black people in this country is so bad, a suicide shouldn’t be considered a “win” ’cause there wasn’t another person directly causing the death. I don’t think I’m explaining myself too well (damn you, hazy IPA), but I hope you get my point.
