Was watching a concert of hers from a few years back. She was like 80 or something and I put it on on a whim and for a bit of a laugh as was expecting some croaking grandma….she was belting out Proud Mary, Steamy Windows etc like an absolute fucking Trojan. Magnificent performer. I was like a bed post. Slag.

A string of great pop records but River Deep is something else. One of the great vocal performances and arguably Phil Spector’s greatest production. RIP

    Millsy Great track. Nutbush City Limits also deserves a mention. Also love the way she came back bigger than ever (without Ike) with Private Dancer album

      I actually quite like Private Dancer. Turner has grown on me over the years. Big fan of all things Motown but always considered her almost dad rock ish due to her universal appeal. But she was an immense stage presence and top performer.

        A real “that guy who’s name you don’t know in a movie, but recognize the face” Treat Williams dead at 71 due to a motorcycle-accident. Pretty badass way to go at that age. Or stupid

        Disney+ has Deep Rising if you want to watch a really fun bad movie he was in.

                Noooo! Easily my favourite writer. His books were incredibly vivid. Reading a paragraph felt like an entire chapter. RIP

                ‘Child of God’ is the only book I haven’t read of his.

                        Me too. I distinctly remember feeling like i’d been punched in the stomach and having the wind knocked out of me on a few occasions while reading ‘Blood Meridian’. In a good way 😅 Some of the scenes in that book are not for the faint of heart. Some of the violence makes The Old Testament feel like a hug. 😅
