Amps Thats exactly how I feel about the Tory party / posh southerners who couldn’t give cunting fuck about the North. It was always nice to have them, and anyone else in Downing Street, with a European leash on them. Pity that has now gone.

Well. I have to say that I have an older, smarter, even-more-Scottish-than-me colleague who basically say this. He says that the EU put money into the parts of the UK that Tory politicians can’t reach (#Heineken). The North essentially. By which I mean northern England and northern Scotland too.

I disagree with him. I think the threat of Scottish nationalism combined with the levelling up agenda and the proximity of the electorate means that money should be distributed more evenly under Brexit….even if it doesn’t fit with their cost-benefit analysis which always favours London. I think there’s an awareness now that this methodology is costing votes and potentially Kingdoms.

To summarise, smarter people than me agree with you but I believe the logic, if not history, is on my side. The past is not always a guide to the future.

Who confirms that none of the ppe ever appeared, amps? As zacko has already proven, you can literally share a tweet with a pitiful link to pretty much anything your mind can fathom and claim it as fact.* Not having a pop at you. Just always seem to be irked by these types of tweets.

The fact I didn’t read the all of comments after the tweet means that I will be utterly destroyed in the next 3 mins when amps posts the facts to back up the tweet and I will learn to read everything before commenting next time!

I was involved in at least [redacted] of these companies Si and I don’t think we sent much more than a couple of hundred carrier bags. See my post on the classic Bedrock Covid-19 thread circa Feb 2019 “ opens mask shop “ xx

-si- No mate, I agree, it’s very difficult to verify every one of those claims before posting. But, I know a fair bit of it has been documented and discussed in parliament which I would imagine gives it some veracity. I think the reason I want to post something like that, regardless of how much of it I can prove, is because I’m astonished at how corrupt they have been, even if it’s only half as bad as that post suggests.

C_J I disagree with him. I think the threat of Scottish nationalism combined with the levelling up agenda and the proximity of the electorate means that money should be distributed more evenly under Brexit….

This is sort of the problem… they will only spread the wealth evenly whilst there is some sort of threat to their power. Once Brexit is a distant memory and all the independence chatter has died down, they will go back to treating everyone who isn’t in London, or their best friend, like shite.

The EU was delightfully benevolent. Some bean counter in Brussels doesn’t have any history with me, he doesn’t have an opinion on me or where I come from, he just sees that my part of the country has reached a threshold of one kind or another and therefore gets some of it’s taxes back. Boris and chums have opinions, very human opinions, very southern middle class opinions, and they don’t like you, or me, or anyone who didn’t go to Eaton or the like, and they will leave you to rot if they think they can get away with it… and the minute they think they are no longer getting away with it, they will whip out a new initiative or investment plan to appease you and make you forget you have been left to rot. See the Northern Powerhouse etc.

Back in the 80s Geoffrey Howe told Thatcher to not spend any money on Liverpool and instead leave it to a ‘managed decline’. I don’t think the current Tories are any different at all. I’d say they where currently doing something similar with the NHS. If any of them gave a fuck, they’d be pouring resources into it, not giving out bullshit PPE contracts. They see everything through the lens of business and not people.

I’d quite like to be governed by a super intelligent non political AI or some sort, but failing that, I’d like all parties to agree to a GDP percentage budget for the NHS and then ring fence it with some sort of accord that would forever take it out of the hands of any future government of any persuasion.

Amps they will go back to treating everyone who isn’t in London, or their best friend, like shite.

          Quite right!

Fucking hell lol, no messing about with the number there! Is the £200000000000 quantified in the comments?

              • Amps replied to this.

-si- I just googled it, and there appear to be several sources saying it is in that ball park. Same for the number of fishermen. Again, the comments have arguments back and forth.

I am in absolute agreement re a lot of the money has went to waste in terms of overpaying for simple items but can’t bring myself to believe that a government could be that incompetent to the tune of hundreds of millions of pounds of public money to purchase PPE equipment!

                • Amps replied to this.

-si- It’s not incompetence though, its done on purpose, it’s deceit. All of those companies will have ties to someone in government.

Surely in this day and age that can’t be the case? How easy is it for anyone to go on to Companies House and look at directors of ltd companies and work things out. Am i being too naive to think that this isn’t easily traceable and people wouldnt be held to account if it was happening to that extent?

-si- I’d have a google around for ten minutes.

So if we hadn’t Brexited each fisherman would now have £17 milly in their bank? I’m not entirely sure if that would be a good thing or not. I know a few lads from Peterhead and I’d say a fair chunk of that would end up in the pockets of crack dealers and Dutch hookers.

I think his sums might be a bit off somewhere tbh.

C’mon, Si. İ refuse to believe you’re being serious here. The best way to answer your own question would be to give an example of a Tory being held to account for anything in 2020, never mind for financial fuckery.

So how the fuck are we 100s of millions down and this isn’t front page news or headline news on the tele?

There was a report the other week but they basically pulled some spanish lad who acted as a broker to source the ppe for a british company, the broker made £20m+ for the connection and i think the company got a £100m order for ppe, the quality of which was questionable.

So british politics is now at trump levels where we do whatever the fuck we want and front it out with the electorate and anyone brazen enough to question the goings on?

                        -si-

The £200000000000 quoted was for Brexit brother, not PPE.

                        • -si- replied to this.

C_J No. Thats not what they are saying. It’s cost per head, not what they would have received. They are just mocking the fact that many Brexiteers where so concerned for the welfare of our fishermen, and the subsequent cost per head of Brexit for each said fisherman.

Essentially, Brexit was rather an expensive outlay for so few people.
