        My first 7 years of supporting Watford were 5 struggling in the Champ and 2 in League One (using modern lingo). The idea of us doing anything in the PL seemed very far-fetched.

        As a young football fanatic who watched a lot of the PL it’s difficult to subsequently not have one team who you would rather do well - watching the best league in the world but not caring about any of the results would be boring - and my mother had started out as a Utd fan before extended family influence turned her primarily to a Watford one so there was sympathy there. Plus most my mates in school were Arsenal fans, so it was enjoyable whenever Fergie got one over them.

        On the occasions when Watford have to my positive surprise been in the PL and played against Man Utd, my support has always unquestioningly been 100% with Watford. There has never been any conflict in my mind, or a real rivalry between them on the pitch. Watford are my club. Utd are a secondary form of “entertainment”.
