Other than being prone to preachiness, We Own This City is compelling drama and John Bernthal’s performance is magnificent.
A bit like watching The Wire in a parallel universe with many of the same actors on show. Highly recommended

It’s ok. Very patchy and feels badly edited; if you had no prior knowledge of the real story you wouldn’t know what the fuck was going on for the first 2 episodes. Please don’t compare it to The Wire though.

Agreed. Their choice to jump around in time made it pretty confusing. But Bernthal is so great in it. He’s just hilarious. Makes the entire show. And it was nice to see old Wire characters and Baltimore again. Not as great as the OG but I enjoyed it. Will give it another go soon as - like The Wire, Generation Kill, and The Deuce - I suspect it’ll get better when one isn’t so caught up with outcome.

I feel that way about Shutter Island as well. Watched that recently. Not being fussed with the twist at the end makes for a much better watch. It’s a beautiful film.

Yeah he’s excellent as well. There are clips of the real Hersl on YouTube. He looks like a right prick and completely unfit to be a cop.

      EDIT found one:

        4 days later

New HBO crime doc. Pretty good! These fucking inbred retards…good grief. Only three episodes released, so not much of a catch-up needed, with three more coming out in the coming weeks. I recommend it. Likely could’ve been edited a bit more, down to say four episodes, but it’s a pretty crazy story so far and likely only going to get more bizarre.

        And all in on this….

        Nathan Fielder is a riot.

        whatever

It’s good. Should’ve been a movie rather than a drawn out series but worth a go. Lithgow and Bridges are both very good. Amy Brenneman is always perfectly fine doing her acting thing.

Cheers J. I will definitely check it out in that case. Hadn’t appreciated Lithgow was in at as well, so should be another factor to make it fairly solid.

            whatever

The acting and the direction drive it. Worth a go and just two episodes left (seven in total) so not a big commitment. But too many scenes where it’s like, cool, Bridges likes his dogs and his dogs like him; oh, his relationship with his daughter is fraught. 20 years ago it’s an excellent movie like “The Fugitive” but that’s not what gets made anymore. All in all, by modern “prestige” TV standards it’s very good. I think you’ll like it. I’m enjoying it.

Yeah, definitely works with the trailer. Had to look it up. Seems to be UNKLE - Rabbit In Your Headlights.

Enjoying, prison drama/serial killer yarn Blackbird on Apple TV. Good to see an excellent Ray Liotta mark his final appearance in style as the ailing father. Tarom Egerton and Greg Kinnear stand out too.

bosstrabs powerhouse performance from John Bernthal. Fizzing with charisma and menace

Discovered there is a HBO documentary “The Slow Hustle” that covers the fall out from the events depicted in We Own This City.
Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen WOTC
