All this mention of the new Alien got me thinking that the only one in the franchise that I’ve seen is Prometheus, which was OK as a standalone action movie but I gather was derided by the fans.

I’ll deffo watch them in order soon. I gather Aliens is the best one? It must be given its a Cameron 80s film I suppose

Alien Romulus (2024): 6.5/10

Same premise, new cast. BERKS on a mining colony see an abandoned ship in space and think it’s their ticket to escape their shit existence. Not much novel here conceptually - some scenes in ducts, elevators, the usual xenomorphs, a CGI Ian Holm on the TV- all pretty ‘de rigeur’ but then @Smallman1 makes an appearance at the end to spice things up. Worth a watch just for his gurning face.

Just came out of Alien: Romulus in other words. They could have dialled down the fan service/ homage-department down about 25 % and it would have been much better. Way too many references to the old movies. But real well done, I booked us second row seats, and while it was a pain in the neck and I regretted it because of that all the space stuff was awesome when the screen was all you saw. And the mechanical facehuggers and xenomorphs were much better than the CGI crap on Alien Covenant.

Alien (1979)

This is proof that CGI is not needed to make a great action/Sci fi movie. I enjoyed it…..suspense, story, action and it’s interesting that the xenomorph was on screen for all of 5 minutes in total, yet it didn’t dilute the horror.

I didn’t see the Ian Holm/Ash twist coming at all and the special effects for that part were really well done.

8 out of 10 for me. I have the remaining 3 in the quadrilogy lined up

Still funny and always loads going on in the background that you’ve never clocked before.

Prometheus (2012). I dunno, I like this even more on each viewing. This was my third time watching it. Also watched the 3,5 hour making of doc on the Blu Ray extras. I used to love a really good making of, but due to diminishing sales of physical media they rarely make any that go beyond 15 minutes of talking heads saying how much they loved working on this movie. Too expensive if nobody but physical media-nerds buys them. If anyone is feeling really nerdy it’s on Youtube. Usually these docs end with audience reaction, for some reason this skipped that. 😀

Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). Not seen it since I was a kid. That was a bit more horny and dark then I’d figure for a Disney-movie Jesus. 😀

Enjoyed this. A murder, a wooden mannequin and a spooky house. Amusing in places with some solid jump scares, which usually annoy me but worked here.

Love Lies Bleeding (2024). Pretty gross body horror (and jesus the clogged toilet in the first scene nearly made me gag) in this one. But we both liked it, can deffo see how it’s not for everyone though. 3,5/5.
