It’s good if you go into it with an open mind, with no distractions, and you don’t read up on it too much before.

TBH it was the most fun i’ve had with a movie for a long time.

C_J I’m still using an old plasma, a Panasonic from 2011. It did cost 4K back then though, but it still works perfect. Picture quality is awesome, and it also works as a stove in the winter. When it finally dies I plan on probably buying a Hisense. So not going high end.

I know my shit because I’ve done a ton of research in preparation already. If I’d be willing to pay a lot I’d get a Sony A95L. Hisense U8K seems to be the best budget TV for movies according to my research.

oh yeah, i remember that now. those old plasmas do have a certain charm about them.

my top tip on buying TVs is to make sure you always see them working in person first, playing different sources.

also, buy them on credit even if you have cash because (in the UK at least) you get a 14 day cooling off period with that, so if you don’t love it you can just send it back.

Napoleon (2023).

I watched the Director’s Cut. Most of the new material was to do with Josephine, which was welcome as that meant more Vanessa Kirby. She is the best thing about this movie, the second is Ridley Scott doing historical spectacle with a massive budget. Very inaccurate historical spectacle, but I don’t give a damn. And when Kirby leaves the movie Rupert Everett enters and is majestically hammy. I don’t know what to think of Joaquin Phoenix’ performance, but whatever it is I guess it’s what Ridley Scott wanted. And it is hilarious in places. That fall down the stairs is amazing.
All in all I prefer this cut. The movie is still no masterpiece, but I like it a lot.

Watched Once Upon A Time for the first time since its release, even better the second time around. Definitely in Tarantino’s top 5.

Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) & Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004). Fucking awesome. The fight between Uma Thurman and Daryl Hannah in Vol. 2 is unbelievable.

To be fair it’s at least twenty years since I saw that film so I’m not 100% sure how I’d feel about it if I watched it tomorrow. A lot of the Cohen brothers can be a bit marmitey. If you’re not quite in the right headspace it can seem alienating but it hits hard if you can find a route into it.
