Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985). Finished watching the OG films for the first time with this. Pretty bad, felt like a kids-movie compared to the other Mad Max-films. A bad one. Still it’s amazing how big of an impact this has left to popular culture, so many references I only now got.

Broken Arrow (1996)

If you need a film where you can leave your brain at the door this is for you. A semi decent action movie with all the usual tropes, especially some total cheese lines from Travolta. A fair few helicopter explosions as well. One of the funnier deaths at the end also.

Heretic was alright. Did like the anti-religion element quite a bit and Hugh Grant was really good. Worth a watch at 6.5 / 10

Red Rooms (2023). Holy shit. 5/5. Straight to my top 5 of 2024 (The actual release for this was this year, it debuted on film festivals last year). I bought this from Apple, and now I feel like I should delete it from AppleTv library, it feels so wrong in so many ways. Juliette Gariépy is a revelation, she acts so much by doing so little.

The Order (2024)

Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult (who seems to be in absolutely everything at the moment) face off as cop/ FBI agent vs robber/ white supremacist domestic terrorist in this 1980s set crime thriller based on real events.

Lots of stuff about this was really good. Hoult disappears into a believable, low-key performance and is painted sympathetically as a socially-conscious, family-oriented man which contrasts nicely with Law’s single-minded, obsessive bull-in-a-china-shop approach. Some of the action sequences are excellent.

Although the film doesn’t in the end fully deliver on its initial promise, I would still recommend this.

Watched the 1st Dune and really enjoyed it. No real fluff, just straight to the point. Really liked the ominous score too. 7.5/10.
