rhouses Mohicans quite a bit cheesier than I remembered, but just about holds up. ( 7.1 / 10 )

Just gave it another go after a couple of decades. Should’ve just left it.

Watched The Substance. Got about halfway through it. It looks, sounds and feels great, but could see where it was going and just didn’t keep me interested enough despite all the tits and muff.

Where Eagles Dare (1968). Should not have mentioned this yesterday, had to watch it today because of that. Holds up in case you’re wondering, but the 2010 Blu ray I own barely looks better than a DVD. There was a story a few years back that Clint Eastwood has approved a bunch of 4K remasters of his old movies including Dirty Harry, Pale Rider and this. Since the first two are getting released now I hope this also gets a new release. It deserves it.

@Amps I’ve also not seen The Great Escape. It got a new 4K release from Arrow Video. I’ll get it next time they do a sale.

The Order (2024). Really good. Not perfect. Pretty unbelievable thing happens right at the end that sort of takes you away from what was a really realistic film until that point, but hey it’s the movies. A reminder that we used to get these sort of excellent thrillers all the time, now maybe a good one comes out once every few years. Jude Law channels Gene Hackman in Mississippi Burning pretty hard, and actually sells it.

I wish this had been in the theatres in Finland too instead of straight to streaming.

Carry On - Taron Egerton / Jason Bateman

A bit conflicted about this. It was either shit or very shit.

Lots of completely bizarre decisions from every single character and plot holes all over the place.

However, it was an easy watch with my son for a Saturday evening.

Also, Taron Egerton seems to play more American roles than most American actors.

The Insider (1999)

Russell Crowe and Al Pacino star in a story about a whistle blower for a tobacco company.

I really enjoyed this. Pacing was excellent as was Christopher Plummer. I’m still not sure Crowe was the right choice but it was still a great film.

gcw Crowe was too young at the time, but they made it work pretty well considering the character is in his fifties. A film like this works better with a director like Mann, because he knows it’s pretty talky, so he includes some amazing cinematography in it to make it more interesting to look at.

Near Dark (1987). So sad I only now watched this for the first time. I would have loved it on the VHS days. Missed it with about 30 years. It was pretty awkward first watch in 2025. God tier performance from Bill Baxton though, and Kathryn Bigelow knew how to shoot movies even in the 80s.

Fight Club (1999)

I think I watched this when it first came out but I have no recollection of it.

I can see why this is highly rated, although I don’t think I would rewatch it. Norton is a great actor IMO and Brad Pitt usually turns in a decent performance. I would imagine the book this is based on is probably good fun.

Millsy you wont be surprised to learn that I went to the cinema to see this with the wife, it was absolutely terrible. It was the same night as Brazil 1 - Germany 7 as well, so not only did I watch a stinker I missed prob the best game of that World Cup.

Fortunately the Xmas special that year was a return to form
