Alien (1979, SE Blu-ray)

John Hurt, Iain Holm and Sigourney Weaver casually blunder around in space and pick up a nasty bug along the way.
Some of the effects seem quite funny now but there are still a few scares and several classic moments.
Fantastic performance from Jones the cat too.

Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, and Sigourney Weaver go back into space, armed to the teeth, to kill aforementioned bugs.
James Cameron brings a far more raucous, crowd-pleasing tone to proceedings but this is still butt-clenchingly effective fare.

1917 (2019, Ultra HD 4K download)

A couple of young British chaps rescue their colleagues from slaughter in a stirring tale of derring-do and courage.

Although this largely comprised a soldier walking through a field for a couple of hours, I didn’t mind it too much.

It was largely fine, I watched it all the way through. It’s fun trying to spot the cuts.

LT42 Watched Pet Sematary last night as I remembered it was unsettling when I was younger.

The Kingcast is a podcast where two hosts and one guest talk about a King story, and usually it’s adaptation too for an hour. I’ve really enjoyed it. This week just happened to be about Pet Sematary and it’s 1989 adaptation. That is one book I read a few times as a teenager, but as an adult it works in a completely different way. I tried it a few years ago, but it was too oppressive to enjoy it when you know where it’s going, and even as a childless person, when it’s about the death of your child.

The return of the kid was very Chuckyesque. I’m sure the book is very good, never read it but it’s been recommended many times before.

Along_the_Wire I should probably give Thinner another chance. Read it as a teenager and didn’t like it. It’s one of the three books by King I don’t own, all because I didn’t feel the need to ever read them again. The other two are Misery and Gerald’s Game.
