jonattonyeah i mean more from a transmission point. is one more likely to transmit the virus than the other? again, i assume the answer in ‘no’, just want to make sure that assumption is correct.

the reason i ask is that, if that is true, there is merit to the idea of vaccinating the vulnerable, giving healthy people the option, and making the idea of vaccine passports dubious at best. i know it’s more complicated than that, but i think a balanced discussion is a good idea.

Depends on viral load. If the vaccine, or prior antibodies, keep the viral load down despite coming up positive, the transmission possibilities should be low assuming precautions like mask wearing and keeping to yourself are maintained for 10-14 days. But we haven’t seen many vaccinated people coming up positive so it’s not really possible to say with any certainty.

Once again, can’t speak to the UK, but what holds up the FDA from approving medications is not so much safety or efficacy, but rather bureaucracy - there are too many drugs in the pipeline for them to approve in a timely manner. With Covid, the FDA effectively told drug manufacturers to fuck off unless it’s a Covid vaccine, hence it being approved rather quickly. The Pfizer vaccine was tested on 75,000 people. That’s a lot. Where it gets complicated is the demographics of those 75,000 people.

I have seen it a lot lately in articles/interviews/comments etc “I can’t speak to the UK (or wherever)”
What was wrong with “I can’t speak about the UK” or “I can’t speak for the UK”?

I hope it’s not one of these horrible Seppo sayings that now infiltrates the UK, like “Can I umm GET a mocha?” (yes, sure, go behind the counter and make it yourself) replacing “Please can I have a coffee?”

Yeah it’s really bad. I do wonder if it single-handedly created the modern coffee shop, ’though. I swear those sorts of places with local art and distressed couches weren’t a thing until Friends came along. And then they were everywhere. Most shows seemed to center around a bar (like the Regal Beagle).
