but are they culpable? technology is evolving way faster than our ability to understand it. if russian bot farms can exploit human psychology and that’s compounded by a lack of eduaction, are they responsible? it’s not an easy answer.
The General Covid19 Thread
The stupid will say of course not.
is it the responsibility of people who know better to shepherd the weak and stupid among us because they can’t do it for themselves?
i like how that sentence comes out as both philosophical and condescending at the same time.
I fully take the point that lockdown in a tower block is very different to lockdown in a berkshire village where you can easily go for a walk.
I am talking about the most obvious situations where people really could follow the rules but choose not to. Family days out to the supermarket. Similarly, the supermarkets have no interest in enforcing the rules as they will just get abuse. We had a massive traveller funeral out the back of our house. Hundreds of people. 4 police. They blocked the roads with cars so people could not get to work. Even not in covid that is unhelpful.
beat him to the punch lol.
zackster
I think, from what I’ve read, but hopefully wrong, that you folks are even more fucked for vaccine rollout than us.
Whilst both central governments aren’t exactly performing the UK at least has a national service that’s used to doing this.
US seems to be a bit of a free for all and there’s more to vaccination than just sticking a needle in peoples arms.
Like I said, hope I’m wrong.
Talking of vital supply chain logistics, did you get your wiz whit zack?
We have the totality of human knowledge at our fingertips. At this point, I believe, if you’re an idiot you have made an explicit choice to be one.
jonattonyeah social media isn’t far off brainwashing for some people though. i generally agree that willful ignorance is a massive problem, but that’s a failing of society as much as it is of the individual. education is woefully inadequate.*
*playing devil’s advocate here, i mostly agree with you.
Yeah, fair. I’ve never used any social media (other than message boards like this) so I’m very ignorant to its power and influence. I do find it confusing how many believe Dr. Facebook over Dr. Fauci. I mean, how did we get here? The generation that told us not to believe everything we see on the internet is now going to YouTube to confirm their own preconceived notions. I hope this is just some growing pains as we adjust to being far too interconnected but I’m not too hopeful.
jonattonyeah have you watched the social dilemma? that’ll explain it better than i can here. my degree is in psychology, so although i don’t use it much beyond teaching people about their dogs, i have a little insight into how social media exploits flaws in the way we think and process information. i don’t see how we can adapt to the rate at which technology progresses; i think merging the human brain with tech is probably the way forward, for better or worse.
I have, yeah. It’s really good. I hope we realize that being in very loose contact with thousands of people is neither necessary nor healthy.
jonattonyeah it should be mandatory watching for elementary and junior high kids and their parents. it’s definitely not healthy and we now have the data to prove it.
This prick wants shooting but the comments are even worse.

Sir Keir is doing that thing again where he’s heard what is likely to happen and has decided to call for it first, isn’t he? Like the boyfriend who sees the writing on the wall and is racing to say you’re dumped first
I don’t trust a man with more hair on his face than his head. But maybe I’m racist.
Me Ma gets her first jab Thursday. Hope the old dear keep things on the DL and doesn’t attend any plague raves from now until then down the local church hall. Ive given her orders.
Hopefully things from Monday the country will get on with it and roll the damn vaccine out ASAP to all
