Still not ventured into a pub or restaurant. My wife’s mum and dad are in their 70’s and look after her mentally handicapped uncle, who also has diabetes. So pretty imperative we take it as careful as possible. They are basically getting fuck all help from the authorities here. The uncle usually goes to a special school during the week but that’s a no go for the foreseeable future, so they have spent the last 4 months 24-7 with him. They weren’t even put on the priority list for home shopping. My wife had to do all that. Utter mess.
This disease is very discriminatory. If you are young, healthy, well off you stand a better chance than others not so lucky. A lot of my mates back in New York just buggered off to their upstate country house or AirBnB’d as soon as the shit hit the fan and got outa dodge. If you work in security, on the buses, if you are shielding, have at risk relatives you’re not as keen to start back up normal again even if the risks are very small.
Im having to fly back to the States on the 25th . Work have basically told be I need to get back otherwise legally I can’t do my job as I’m SEC regulated. So I’m probably going to have to be on my own for weeks/months whilst my wife looks after her olds/the uncle.
This disease has affected many people in many ways. I just hope everyone remembers that when out and about and how their actions can have massive downstream implications. Here’s hoping right….
